I am female, a professional in the medical field and feel like I can "pass" for a non shy person though really, I am pretty shy. It's plagued me my whole life. I always hated it, always admired very friendly, approachable people. I have learned to make small talk fairly well, but some days it still exhausts me. I have to interact with patients daily, and this has gone a long way to helping me learn people skills and appropriate body language. I have also always worked very people-oriented jobs when I was younger...such as waitress and bartender. Odd, you'd think I'd pursue more solitary pursuits, but no. Sometimes I wonder what drove me into such social occupations. Perhaps it's because I always wished interacting with people would come more easily. At times I do wish I could sit at a computer all day or just write or paint. Unfortunately I am not talented enough to make a living that way! I find making friends to be tough. I do have friends, but don't feel close to many people. I don't share thoughts or feelings easily, I'm intensely private. I LOVE alone time and making time to be social can sometimes work my last nerve. I guess in short, I'm a natural introvert who has forced myself to act more extroverted because it makes life easier, let's face it. I finally decided at my advanced age to find a community of people who GETS it....introversion, that is. Anywa, thanks for reading!

Hi and welcome! I can relate a lot to what you have said. I tend to be really shy, very awkward socially. I went even as far, being a hairstylist to try and fix it......or give me more skills to manage and cope with it. But, it was trying to fit a square into a circle type of thing. I found this link from a site I found that fit me themetapicture.com/how-to-interact-with-the-introverted/I have the introverted thing, compounded by social anxiety, shyness etc. Anyways, again welcome!

Hi. I'm not usually one to greet new people in real life. But somehow, sometimes i find myself more relaxed and less pressured when i'm online. So welcome. Feel free to just hang around here, and maybe post whatever you feel like to?
@ dawningday, that link to dealing with introverts was a fun read.
