For probably a few years, I have been trying to view the Hermit's Slate webapge, and I can't do so. Apparently, one has to be a member to view that board. Probably two or so years ago, I signed up, and was sent an email saying my membership was awaiting activation. Well, it never was activated. In the past few weeks, I signed up again. Since I had to give my email address to sign up, I was expecting to have my sign up denied, because someone with that same email address had already signed up. But, no,that didnt' happen. Again, I got an email telling me my account was awaiting activation. Just what is the problem with this board? Here's the URL for those interested, or curious: www.hermitary.com/slateThe board has no forum, but it does claim 1035 members, giving the nameof the newest member, and it's not the user name I signed up under. Total posts are, or were 9,870 and total topics were 1072, although in the past few days, the number of topics and posts have both increased by one. So, it is not a dead message board that no one is posting to. I have sent an email to the address I received my notice that my account was awaiting activation from (often there is a note tonot reply to such emails but in this case there was no such note). So far,no reply to that email. So, Hermit's slate has an active message board, but it's impossible, for me, at least, to get my membership activated. What could possibly be the problem?

At the top of that website, it says "Register first, then email admin to activate account: mail at hermitary dot com."
Try emailing a request to mail@hermitary.com if you have not all ready done so.

Thanks for the quick reply, marle. I think that is the exact email address I used in sending my request.
Will check my sent box to be sure.
It was just yesterday that I sent my request that my account be activated, so maybe it takes longer than just a day, if there is anyone minding the store at that message board.

Glad to say that my accout at hermit's slate is finally activated.
There is an awful lot on that message board to get acquainted with.

After doing a lot of surfing of Hermit's Slate, I have found it to be a great message board, even for those SAs who would not consider themselves to be hermits.
It was well worth the wait to get my account there activated, and with so many threads and posts on the board, I expect to spend many more hours surfing there.

I check the hermits slate message board from time to time, altho it is a very low traffic board.
Recently, I have joined find a grave to find out some how some long some of the hermits reported on in the newspapers lived, after the were discovered.
I am especially interested in Charlie Bowers, who was discovered in West Virginia in early 1971. when declining health and bad weather forced him to give up his hermit lifestyle and to live in a retirement home on social security, after he had lived 14 years in an abandoned coke oven.

Still very little traffic at hermit's slate. I did find out whatever happened to hubcap Willie, the Desert Hermit who lived outside of Palm Springs Califiornia, and have told about it on one forum that I post to, but I can't remember if I posted his eventual demise here on Shy United, or not.
I don't remember right now if I posted Willie's story or not.
I did post a thread called hermits and grit, about Roy Ozmer a hermit of the florida everglades, who was somewhat of a celebrity.
I've found his memorial on Find a Grave, but have been unable to find any memorial for Hubcap Willie altho I do know the cemetery he was buried in.
I hope to eventually find out whatever happened to charlie Bowers.
Ray Phillips, the Hermit of Manana Island, Maine, who I use as my avatar, was cremated, and his remains buried on Manana Island.
But, I can't find any memorial for him on Find a Grave.
