You happen to be in a a party or group event with people you are fairly acquainted with like co-workers in your job.
Then the host comes up with a game for all to join. "Ok. Pair yourselves/find a partner. In this game, you and your partner will share the prize if your pair wins something."
Then people in the party start looking for a partner...after a moment. You find yourself alone and without a partner. The host looks at you, (i don't know, maybe he/she knows you'll end up without one.) and asks "do you have a partner?"
It's awkward, and i hate it when these kind of things happen. But luckily, the host knows the group is evenly numbered. And there was one other person without a partner. Now i have a partner at least.

Hi Outcast - I haven't had that exactly as you describe, but it evoked a memory of my high school years in gym class. This one particular gym class we all girls were partnering up, and the scenario was that one girl whose best friend partnered with another close friend. That left her alone without a partner temporarily. I wanted to partner with one who I felt close to at the time and she was partnered with another girl. That left the other girl and me. Very awkward moment for me because I was not one of her favourite people, so I ended up saying to her, "Be my partner"? and she says "I guess so".
