The last few posts illustrate the basic problem with placing too much emphasis on labels. Consider the more relevant questions.
Why is it good to be a virgin?
1. Usually related to religious reasons. This usually connects it to morality, which is dependent upon CHOICE.
2. Sometimes a value is placed on not having sex with lots of people.
In both of these cases, rape victims are "good" for the same reasons a virgin is.
Why is it bad to be a virgin?
1. Lack of experience means lack of skill.
2. Also, not being able to hook up with women is not considered masculine. I can't say as much about the case for women.
In both of these cases, why does it matter if a girl can tell if a guy is a virgin? If she's close enough that something visible would show--he's not likely to be a virgin for much longer.
The same thing with oral sex. It's not important whether oral sex removes virginity. What's important is whether giving/getting blow jobs is a GOOD thing. A good example of people fucking up with labels: A professor I had for a religion class said that a lot of Catholic priests encourage women to have anal or oral sex if they "have to"(REALLY want to/too much pressure from a guy) have sex--before they have vaginal sex. This way, they keep the label "virgin". The messed up thing is that the Catholic church considers oral and anal sex perverted(and vaginal sex is not).
By the way, a girl losing her virginity doesn't necessarily mean a broken hymen at that point. They can be broken before screwing a guy and sex with a guy doesn't necessarily mean a broken hymen. Back in the days when virginity was Important, women would use different juices to show they were virgins. I imagine quite a few were virgins quite a few times.
