I am 17 years old and I have an effiminate twang in my voice. I'm a man by the way. I'm heterosexual. I am incredibly quiet in school because of it. I get a lot of stick: people calling me things like gay boy. One of my teachers noticed that the stick was affecting me badly and my parents had to come to school. It didn't stop the verbals. Instaed they have become more hurtful. Has anybody out there aany advice of how to deal with this mess?

Hello Sweet. It does sound like you're going through a pretty bad time at the moment. The only advice I can give you is just to be yourself. You shouldn't let these people get you down. You will be mentally stronger for it.

Hi there Sweet,
In no way do I want to undermine your emotionally stressful situation at school. I remember a young man who attended a highschool I went to that was harassed on a daily basis for the same attributes that you possess, although he was not a homosexual. Those taunts are disrespectful and can lead anyone into feelings of shame, loss of self, etc. To put it short, this young man decided to kill himself by jumping off a bridge. He was successful.
There is no way I am implying this will happen to you. I just wanted to share an incident that escalated to that nature to raise awareness to others on this board about the consequences of bullying victims. No preaching intended, ok guys?
You are lucky to have a strong support system at home with parents who are concerned enough to go to the school and try to right this wrong. Handling dominating peer groups (especially in highschool) requires a strong social support...primarily your immediate family. Go to your close friends for support and find a friend you can trust that will understand your issue. Also, can you talk to a school counsellor? I highly recommend it. Or, the least popular choice is leaving that school and starting over in another one.
The great thing about humans is that you are still in a period of physical and emotional growth. Your voice will eventually mature.
I wish you the best of luck and hope.
Melanie
