when i was in high school i considered taking a drama class never did though, u know i just realized i dont really know where im going with this.. but good for you for having the courage to do it....

One warning about drama/public speaking/comedy classes is that there's a big difference between performing a structured, pre-memorized routine on a stage and engaging in a spontaneous, improvised conversation.
Obviously the classes will help, but not completely.
Good side effects could be: You're just out there with people, making a close group of friends, getting practice with all that stuff.
It could also just give you a big boost in confidence by doing something you never thought you could do which could take a big bite out of your shyness
I think for a lot of shy people, the turning point was when they joined a group of people similar to them; debating, soccer team, etc.
