i know a lot of people are skeptical about the idea of meditation, but i began meditating about a year ago and i have already experienced many positive effects. meditation can help you in just about every aspect of your life. there are many different meditations that are targeted at specific problems. when you practice meditation you can develop the ability to "watch" how your mind works. if you become proficient in this skill, it can help you to gain valuable insight into the inner workings of your mind. when you find yourself in a situation where you feel socially anxious, you can watch how your mind reacts. the irrational thoughts and fears become more clear after practicing meditation awhile, and this can be the first step in overcoming social anxiety. even though i have only been meditating for a year, i have already found meditation to be power method for overcoming social anxiety. if you have the motivation, meditation can be an excellent method to help with your shyness.

Meditation taught me relaxation techniques. I use it at nights when I can't get to sleep.

Meditation is very helpful technique.
I've heard that some people get headaches and such when they start meditating. It's probably because the mind is not used to this stillnes .. give it time and it will go away.

I really want to get in to meditation. But I don't know where to start. I don't know of a 'quiet place'. My family are really chaotic.

Try taking yoga classes. Hatha usually has meditation and relaxation at the beginning and at the end. Or pranayama yoga classes which focus on energy.

I'm really gutted! I saw a notice in the library earlier about a basic/beginners meditation class that is running. It's only a 10 minute drive from where I am. It sounds really good... but i've missed the first 3 weeks of it. There's no way I can join this late.
