I'm not sure why I'm doing this...
It is about evolution so its got something to do with it and yeah I guess I was. I don't see how it's the same as going to hell for not believing in God though.
Not really. Your point in saying Darwin was sexist and racist seemed to be an attempt to make people angry about it...as in, if he could suggest such things, everything else he said should be disregarded too. Darwin lived in a different time, since sexism and racism were accepted, he was more inclined to go along with those ideas. Just as people who are raised in a religious family with a firm background in faith are more inclined to accept the bible as truth.
To your second statement, I was basically in agreement with geekguy on that one. He said it's a "fear tactic" and that goes along with the "emotional appeal" technique...it's using fear to persuade someone's opinion.
Then again, with regards to that one, I suppose if you do find it to be pure truth, it's stating the facts. But still, some people don't see it as fact; there are two perspectives to it.
Okay. I really don't think there's an answer, though.
Nothing else. Jesus is the only one who bought us into heaven, all we have to do is believe to recieve that great gift. All other religions in the world say you need to do good works to get to heaven, but "all our righousness are as filthy rags" Isaiah 64: 6, God doesn't want what we have to offer him, all he asks is for us to praise and worship him. God doesn't want anybody to kill anybody either it's one of the ten comandments "thou shalt not kill", there are evil spirits of satans that can trick people into believing that though. Satan is the prince of the world so he has that power.
This doesn't make sense to me. What religion are you exactly?
What do the "evil spirits of satans that can trick people into believing that" refer to exactly?
What you are saying, it seems to me....is that even if you disobey the 10 commandments, as long as you at least believe in God, you will still be certain to get into heaven? I'm just trying to understand you position here. It doesn't make sense to me that a serial killer/mass murderer who believes in God and that Christ died for our sins earns a secured spot in heaven while someone who doesn't believe in god, yet treats everyone well automatically goes to Hell.
But the point was that if one doesn't believe in a Hell in the first place, they aren't going to fear it. Why would anyone fear something they don't believe in? I don't believe in vampires, so I don't fear them.
I don't think that all those 40 writers over hundreds and hundreds of years would have tied everything in the Bible together so perfectly, and all 48 prophocies in the Bible were fulfilled theres also alot of history in the Bible and history can tell that the things in the Bible happened. But yeah there is a smidgen of doubt in my mind because i havn't seen everything in the Bible with my own eyes. Everybody probably has a smidgen of doubt. That doesn't mean they don't believe, most Believers pray to God all the time thats a sign of belief right there.
Interesting. Thanks for admitting that anyway. I didn't think you would.
Thats good, you should keep searching to find a stronger faith. Listening to preachers who know what they're talking about is one of the best ways I find. The Bible is the answer to all your problems in life. Theres alot of religions that change the teachings of the Bible so I recommend non denomonational christian beliefs. People who go by exactly what the Bible says and don't change it. I will be praying for you.
I'm not searching really. Not necessarily anyway. I think I'm more apathetic than anything in the present time.
At this point, the idea of "spirituality" alone....(meaning, feeling a oneness with the universe? I don't know...) appeals to me more than being religious. And even then, I think it's still more of an individual thing, a feeling that can't be forced.
No matter what the bible says, (and how do you know for sure what the original is?), people are still making their own interpretations.
And anyway...to your last statement....somehow I doubt you really will pray for 'Strawnanas? from SU'...but if you do, do you say/do that because you really want to or more because you feel you should?
Has prayer ever really worked miracles for you? If so, I highly recommend that you may want to direct all that energy toward more meaningful/bigger issues than me.
God is holy and that is why he abhors sin. Anything that is not absolutely pure God separates himself from. It is sin that keeps us from entering heaven. Nothing unpure can enter into heaven. There is nothing man can do to cleave sin from himself and without God’s intervention we are doomed to spend eternity in hell."
So you take all the stories in the bible literally?
You don't find any contradictions in the bible?
(just went through this thread more...if you read all the posts from everyone, others have stated certain contradictions that are within the bible.)
That goes to show how much people will do just to avoid the Bible. All they're doing is arguing back, creationists could argue back again at all those if they wanted to.
The thing is, you accept the bible as truth. Others don't see it as that.
Here's my problem with this thinking....Why does it stop at God? Who created God? How was he just there all along? Did it ever occur to you that if it stops at him, he came from nothing?
hmm....
I just want you to know that I'm not trying to change your opinion. There are just many questions that can be raised.
The main problem I have is when PEOPLE think that they can tell other people they will go to hell if they don't believe the same thing they do. If God is out there and there is a judgement day, he will do the condemning. Regardless of what the bible says, I'm sure he could change his mind about his rules if he really wanted to.
I think that as long as someone's beliefs aren't harming other people, it's fair to respect them.
Maybe the real test is in how we treat other people. Perhaps we're all meant to have problems and weird issues and people are meant to be different for this reason....maybe the only thing we'll be judged against in the end is how we treat other humans for their differences. According to Strawnanas.

As for the original topic of teaching intelligent design in the classroom alongside evolution, *shrugs* I don't know. I don't think I've heard much about this debate. I suppose it depends on how it is presented.

I'm pretty sure I'll never post in this thread again. Just because I don't want to.
That has nothing to do with it really. You're just trying to persuade by using "emotional appeal" tactics. Same goes with saying..."You're going to go to Hell if you don't believe in God."

Just because you don't believe there is a hell that doesn't mean you should'nt fear it. It still should be you're biggest fear by far.
But the point was that if one doesn't believe in a Hell in the first place, they aren't going to fear it. Why would anyone fear something they don't believe in? I don't believe in vampires, so I don't fear them.

"Adam ate of the forbidden fruit, in open rebellion against God. This original sin signified man attempting to become his own God and denying the truth of God’s word. This was nothing subtle but an open hostile attack on God’s authority. Upon eating this fruit Adam died an immediate spiritual death and eventually also died a physical death. Because we are offspring of Adam we have inherited this sin nature from Adam.
God is holy and that is why he abhors sin. Anything that is not absolutely pure God separates himself from. It is sin that keeps us from entering heaven. Nothing unpure can enter into heaven. Here's a comprehensive index of every anti-evolution argument there is, and why they are wrong:

so theres no need to discuss this really

I was talking to my friend who was an athiest about this 2 weeks ago over facebook and he thought it was easier to believe in evolution than God so then I asked him you think its easier to believe the universe came from nothing than from God? and we talked for a few hours after that about evolution and the Bible and, long story short, he believes in God now and is very gracious.
Here's my problem with this thinking....Why does it stop at God? Who created God? How was he just there all along? Did it ever occur to you that if it stops at him, he came from nothing?
