I thought the more generally accepted idea for the Egyptian Pyramids was that they built earth ramps up the sides of the pyramid as it was being constructed and dragged the stones up on sledges (using logs to roll them on). Any kind of pulley system or scaffold simply wouldn't be strong enough or tall enough. Oh, that was there too. However, one huge problem existed; how to push five ton blocks around huge 90 degree turns on rollers. This was where the pulley theory came into existance. Don't sell them short, Tal. The Egyptians designed the largest ston structures in history, and have not been replicated since. However, i have also read interpretations that speculate that the pyramid construction bankrupted the theocracy of Ancient Egypt, with most of the country's wealth going to pyramid construction. With the invasions of the Nubians from the South in the Middle Period, the Egyptian theocracy had to turn most of its resources to defense, thus ending the period of the Pyramids. Too bad. And yes, contruction deisgners deisgned the pyramids. And quite contrary to popular belief, the Hebrews didn't build them.

I read an article that was talking about the construction of the pyramids and other ancient constructions.. It basically suggested that it was through levitation that they were built.
