The BMI scale has its flaws, too. A short person who does bodybuilding can have a BMI far over 25, being classified as overweight but still be in a very healthy condition. Those thin persons who eat a lot, mostly junk food and never gain weight aren't healthy either, they're not in good shape and one should therefore not be jealous of them. Besides, some of them will expand vertically some day since most persons have their fat amount increased as they age^^. Good point, Rukrym, I have to agree (I've done a lot of research into nutrition myself). And the football players also, who are "overweight" on a scale but have a very low fat percentage; so yes, i agree that the BMI scale is not applicable to everyone. A good tool (which Dr. Mehmet Oz advocates and uses on his program), is the waist/hip ratio; this, imo is a better indicator, than BMI, of a person's true fat percentage.

I just feel the need to state that putting off weight not necessarily is the best way to a healthy life. Instead of eating less the focus should be on what's right and not. Of course the amounts of food you put inside your body counts, but its contents count more than the amount itself. "Eat right, exercise" could be a slogan for those who wish to have a healthy life. Everyone needs fat on their bodies, whether they like it or not. It's just that some have a bigger percentage than what's normal and should therefore try to replace it with muscles or getting rid of it. Scientists also talk of the "fat gene" nowadays; some simply put on more weight than others and become fat in a much quicker way {keep in mind that this is just a theory, it hasn't been proven yet, I think}. also good points, rukrym .

To be honest, I need to knock thin people. I was cursed with these genes, I can't do anything about them, so I need to whine. I'm a bit fat. Actually, I'm officially overweight according to a BMI calculator (BMI of 28). 5'11" and 200lb certainly isn't thin. Most of it's my fault, since I eat terribly. Let's see, today I ate; -a bagel that was literally painted with cream cheese. -a blueberry thing out of a vending machine. -some tomato soup. -sour gummy worms out of the same vending machine. -10-piece mcnugget meal. So I'm not shocked that I'm fat, but I am pissed that I know several people with equally bad eating habits that are taller, weigh much less than I do and exercise even less than I do. I could lose the weight if I ate better and exercised more, but my point is that it annoys me that I need to. I actually don't have a very big appetite, I just adore any food with incredible amounts of sugar, fat or salt in it. me too, k1 ;D i love sweets and fat - not so much salt. I have what some in this field of research (or whatever) is called a "fat tooth" lol. I like sweet things which have a lot of fat calories in them like brownies, cheesecake, and ice-cream, and fudge - those sorts of things, which, unfortunately, do :(nothing to build good health

Overweight people tend to be the ones who others will ‘monitor’ and comment to all the time about what they are eating….which can be really frustrating. Perhaps if you did that to her, or made other such comments, or if you let on how easy it is for you to eat healthy all the time, then maybe that could cause a bit of resentment on her side. If not, then she’s just obviously jealous and not a good person to be around. Dude you are SOO right . . . they also are the ones who comment on what OTHER people are eating! <rant> My best friend is a sweet girl but she is obese. She ALWAYS makes an excuse before she eats anything . . . usually, "I didn't have lunch today!" . . . (yeah right, we know that you don't get to be obese by skipping meals). She also comments on MY weight, saying "Let's face it, you're not skinny" and "There's no way your ass would fit in those!" (I weight 115!) </rant> Strawberry I agree that maybe the overweight girl is jealous of the OP. You made some very good points (you usually do) in your post(s) . Little Darling: I do have to make a comment on what you said above "you don't become obese by skipping meals" - actually there is evidence that leaving it too long between eating periods will cause the body's starvation response to kick in; and consequently lower its metabolism, resulting in weight gain. Science has advocated (and it has been in mags like the Woman's World, and probably on Oprah, Dr. Oz. and other shows, that a good way to maintain or augment an existing metabolic rate (and keep it up all day) is to eat mini-meals of 5-6 per day. This keeps the metabolism up; and the body doesn't need to let the "starvation response" kick in. I had dieted using this kind of "thermal reaction" in 1996, and I went froma weight of 158 pounds (I had gained weight during my marriage because I was on both the pill and an antidepressant) to 136 over the course of a few months (from about March to June). That's why it kind of ticks me off (and this was my experience in my failed marriage, btw) that sometimes, a thin person (not all, and i don't mean the OP on here, also btw!) will see a fat person eating even just a little bit of food, and make a comment. My ex was shorter than me but he was muscular, a mesomorph; and he used to brag about his abs all the time; but if I ate anything he'd make a comment on it; and I didn't eat any more than he did; but my medication lowered my metabolism; and therefore I gained weight. So there is the other side to this. Yes, I appreciate what shynesssucks is going though; however the "overweights" have their (our) trials and tribulations also as regards people commenting on their eating. That's all for now.Thank you for listening.
