I've heard this before, that running clears the head and makes one feel better. Some people say it's "runner's high" but there are many other possible explanations for it.
For one thing, you're getting out side into the fresh air and sunshine.
Secondly, it gets your mind off of your troubles.
Thirdly, when you're running you feel in complete control. You just tell your legs to move and they do it!
Fourth, many people run with groups, and the social interaction causes an uplifting effect.
I don't believe in magic powers of exercise, but it can have a positive effect for some people due to the above reasons.

Doing things build confidence. Remember, passion follows action, not the other way round!

Exercise releases endorphines in to the body which you gives you a natural high. If you are feeling a lot of stress and/or have excess adrenaline in your system (fear) it's good for getting rid of it. Another factor is that it helps you get toned and makes you feel fitter which boosts your confidence and self-esteem. I lost a lot of weight when I started training again and not only does that make you feel better physically, it gives you a boost mentally too.

Try reading The Confidence Gap by Russ Harris. It's about acting on the things you fear so eventually you will feel confident about them. It's also about distancing yourself from your thoughts so they can't rule your life. I started thinking about what confidence was and the situations in which I felt most confident. Do you feel confident in familiar places among familiar faces? ;D Me too. You know you can navigate through familiar places well, so you feel confident, right? Like your neighborhood, workplace, school, whatever. But you had to learn to get around that place when it was new to you. You had to keep going back and learning the ropes to become confident. It's the same principle with social interaction. Practice the same situations enough and eventually, you will feel confident with them. Hope this helps, or maybe reading the book will.
