I'll miss Matt Smith but I'm eager to see more of Peter Calpaldi's Doctor. The long wait begins again.
Not sure how I feel about Time of the Doctor yet...I was really tired when I watched it and I need to see it again. Overall it seemed like it was put together in a rush and had pacing issues. It really should have been a two part story. And maybe I had my standards too high, but the battle of Trenzalore did not seem as epic as I had hoped it would be.

I think it was a great antithesis to The End of Time. 10 spent the entire episode harping on about how he was The Doctor, and this new man wasn't him, and it's not fair, and he didn't want to go, and threw some toys out of his pushchair. It was emotional and memorable, but it undermined 10 AND 11. He didn't have a chance.
In The Time of the Doctor, 11's eulogy was so heartbreaking and beautiful, and it was entirely, 'I'll remember when I was me, but The Doctor is coming - change is good, as long as you remember all your lives it's something to be embraced'. They were tears of joy I felt, not tears of, 'Oh God, he's dead', like with Tennant. I loved that eulogy. It was pure Matt, it was everything that made his Doctor so wonderful and memorable for the right reasons. Capaldi has a chance. Matt had to make us love him. Capaldi has Matt's approval, almost. It's a nice handing of the baton.
I've seen it three times now and it just gets better and better. It was complex and a bit 'all-over-the-place', but I got a sense that Moffat wasn't ready for Matt to go and just didn't have the time to wrap it all up neatly. But I think a Doctor dying naturally of old age is sweet, and as a protector of a little village is even more sweet. Again, like throughout the whole episode, it was pure 11. Everything he is and was, was in this episode.
And again, like with The End of Time, he healed himself before he regenerated. And the quickness of it is just what I wanted. Like pulling a plaster off quickly. Get it over with. Don't linger on his face, I'm already in tears. It was brilliant.
I'm still not convinced by Capaldi but I did find myself warming to him. He was just as mad as Matt but it was a controlled madness. He sounded like Tom Baker and acted like him, too. Even in his tones and his facial expressions, it was fantastic. Moffat has compared Capaldi to Baker so the next season is certainly going to be interesting. Clara is a lot like Sara-Jane, and Baker and Sladen was a great double-act. We might be entering into quite a special era. And for me, the thing Capaldi exuded more than anything else in that brief appearance what his presence, his character and his gravitas. Matt lacked that, because he's young, but Capaldi has it in spades. 2014 is going to be very intriguing.
Matt Smith never quite won over the older viewers but I loved him. He was everything I want in a Doctor and only really lacked a gravitas. He was funny, sweet, intelligent and had a wonderful eye for detail. Matt's quirky little hand gestures and facial expressions, many ad-libbed, will be missed. He was brilliant. Four incredible years, I think it was a great send off.
It'll be interesting to see where the show goes from here.

I'm liking it so far. Kind of reminds me of Pertwee's Doctor.

Yeah, a lot of people are saying that. Certainly a 50/50 split online. Doctor Who fans moaning and arguing... Who'da thunk it, eh? Like the cardigan. Very father-like, like Hartnell. I like it, but it is missing something unique. Celery, bow tie, etcetera. He needs a bowler hat. Bowler hats are cool

The red inner lining on that cardigan (I think it's a cardigan) looks nice, other than that I preferred how Matt Smith and David Tennant dressed, although like Scotty said maybe they are going for a granfather feel.

"Clara, be my pal and tell me - am I a good man?" A new 15 second teaser trailer has landed for the new season. I have no idea if the video on the link will work outside of the UK, but it's all very exciting. The new Doctor lands on August 23. Last time, it aired in America on the same day as the UK, so that may happen again. Very excited. www.denofgeek.com/tv/doctor-who/31097/doctor-who-series-8-premiere-date-revealedGetting flutters in me 'art...

Deep Breath was pretty good! It took me a bit to get used to Capaldi but by the end he was pretty fun to watch. I'm eager to see how this season goes.

Obviously, spoiler warning if you haven't seen Deep Breath.
I was really impressed. The tone has become incredibly dark and the overall feel is that of Classic Who. The dynamic between Clara and The 12th Doctor reminds me of the dynamic between Sarah-Jane and The 4th Doctor. Arguing in times of crisis, a slight air of mystery and intrigue. I really enjoyed Capaldi, although he did take a bit getting used to. Going from Matt to Peter is a monumental shift for the show. But once it got underway, it really flowed beautifully.
Obviously, there were several stand-out scenes. The restaurant scene, a prime example of the longer scenes they're going for this time round to give it that classic feel. It kept true to the promises we were given. You just don't know what Capaldi is gonna do next. He's gonna be fun.
The skin balloon fight, did The Doctor push him or talk him into jumping? That look toward the camera was either a look of 'yes, I kill people now' or 'what do you think I did?' I really can't decide, you can't work anything out with this Doctor. Oh, and impaled on Big Ben? That was a bit much. There were times it felt closer to Torchwood.
The humour was stand-out, too. "I don't know, but the English probably did it." Among many other moments. Strax falling, that had me in stitches. I don't think Doctor Who has ever been this funny. It really did have a Fourth Doctor adventure feel to it.
For me, Jenna was the star. Her acting was flawless, and she plays the peeved companion quite well. With The Doctor constantly judging her, and her reactions, Jenna played those scenes so well, it was genuinely funny. I really hope she doesn't go at Christmas. There's something special brewing on the evidence of Deep Breath.
It had everything, from action to emotion. And turning Vastra into a Silurian Jack Harkness, methinks. Pretending to paint Jenny, and asking Clara to pop her clothes off. I do like the relationship between Vastra and Jenny, it's highly believable and talking of love and the kiss, it got many online praising the show for this.
The acting in general was superb. Across the board, acting has never been this good in the show's history. Each actor fighting for supremacy, it was a joy to watch. The Doctor did get drowned out a bit here, but certainly won't next time.
Also, visually, the show has never looked better, and it was well directed. It was nice to see the husband of Elisabeth Sladen appear, and the music throughout was perfect. Quite cinematic. Indeed, the opening titles were awesome and the new theme, too, was excellent. Certainly hints of the '80s themes in there.
All in all, I was blown away. It's unfair to judge anything based on this episode, it's only one episode, but if they keep it up, wow, what a great 12 weeks were gonna have.
I can't praise it enough, I was incredibly impressed.
I think your opinion of it is based on who you are. If you're a Classic Who fan, you'll be pleased to see the show going back a bit in tone, if you came into the show from New Who, like I did, it has much more of an effect on you.
Oh, and Clara saying 'bloody'. That shocked me a bit, actually.
'Bloody' certainly sounds sexy in a Blackpool accent...
