Why!? Why do cars break down the minute you have a few extra dollars? Why!!! My Evil, slutty little car seems to know when I have saved up a little money because it always breaks down the second I get an extra paycheck, or a bonus, or happen to have saved a little. My car is broken....... again. why does it always happen like this!? I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, that it is a conspiracy! An evil little car conspiracy. I will use myself as an example: I am poor. I must work, all. the. time. To get to said work, I must have a car. My car knows this..... and likes it that way! So to keep me poor and dependent, my car immediately breaks down the second I have a little money. I suspect my car knows that if I ever saved a little money, the first thing I would do is replace it. Sigh I had saved a little money to go on a two week vacation next month, but my car couldn't have that, so instead of vacation next month, I will be taking my car to a mechanic, who will tinker around for a bit, and then overcharge me. I am sad ....... and also bitter. Some day car! Its the junk yard for you!

I bought it new in 2003, the main problem is that it was a cheap evil little car when I bought it. It was all I could afford. I try to look on the bright side (that being, that next month I will have the money to fix it) but sometimes trying to see the bright side gets..... exhausting.

How broken is it? Can it still run or do you have to find another way to travel?

Luckily it still drives, Its something to do with the steering column and the wheels (I think) I asked my Dad to take a look at it and he drove it around and then started telling me it would most likely cost a few hundred dollars to fix I think he might have said something about an "o ring" and possibly "joists" (sp?), I'm not sure though, I could barely hear him, my brain was to busy filling up with the terrible silence of dread. I hate when stuff like this happens because I don't know anything about cars, to me its just: something weird is happening thats going to cost me a lot of money.

I totally know where you're coming from. Cars are ridiculously expensive. I don't see how anyone can afford it without going into debt (unless they're REALLY well off). Cars are fantastic, if you have the money. But the gas, all the maintenance, the price itself....just any unexpected costs that come up, it's killer! It's sort of why I wish I could just depend on some sort of public transport, at least then, there would be a fixed amount that you could expect. Anyway, I am sorry to hear you'll miss a vacation. booooo cars....and money.....

Car maintenance is really expensive. But I have to admit I'd much rather use my own car than depend on public transportation. It's great if you live in a really big city where there are no parking spaces. But for everyday use, I need to have the freedom of my car. You can't beat a drive to nowhere at any time of the day just to clear your head and you know complain about the traffic later!
