I never really thought of myself as an eccentric person, but the other day I was conversing with my bf trying to understand myself a little bit. Because I don't fit in with really anybody and he told me he wasn't sure if he should say anything because he didn't want to hurt my feelings but that I was eccentric, didn't know what it meant until I looked it up! However, I'm still not sure whether to be bothered or not by this? Is being eccentric a bad thing?

Being Eccentric isn't a bad thing really, although I guess it kind of depends on what you're doing to make them think that.
Could he actually mean that you just have some quirks?

Well he said that I'm not one to follow the crowd and I don't do things the way other people do them which makes me wonder if he's saying I'm crazy in a nice way LOL!!! If I am oh well! I like it! If being eccentric is bad I don't want to be right!!! No but really is it bad? And does that make me crazy? If so why am I this way? I don't know how to be any other way, I don't do it purposely should I see a therapist to help me sort myself out?

There's nothing to sort out, lol. It's just who you are...and everyone is crazy in their own way, lol. Plus you have a boy friend, and I assume he must love you for the way you are. You're making a big deal out of nothing.

Being eccentric doesn't mean crazy, it means seeing the world in your own way. There is nothing wrong with that.

The UK is full of eccentrics who are mostly weird, and oh so wonderful with their quirky nature. We so do eccentricity well in good ole England. All you can do is be yourself, and you certainly don't need therapy for who you are. The genuine deal who is keeping it real.

I don't like fancy labels for people. The majority of the time they are useless and only serve to make us feel bad. But that aside... No, there is nothing wrong with being different. Some of the best people are. It does not mean you are "broken" and need to be fixed. I think following your own path shows a rare independence and genuineness that this world needs to see more of (even if it's an accident, hehe). No therapy necessary. But if you're gonna be different, I suggest you learn to own your differentness. Don't let it own you (if that makes sense). Have fun with it. March to the beat of your own drum and all that. ;D -an eccentric zena

*whispering under my breath* Different.
Well said, Zena. We're ALL different, and thank Gawd for that. Why just lick vanilla when every other flavour is on offer.

Alot of positive comments I will own my differentness and will contiune to march to the beat of my own drum ;D, however this leads me to my next question does marching to the beat of your own drum make you a leader? I have learned a very valuable lesson within the past few months of living, I don't follow the crowd I believe my manager took note of this and decided to give me a team lead position however, 6 months into it and I am realizing this is not for me and well next month I am stepping down. Personally I feel that just because one doesn't follow the crowd does not make one a leader am I right?

I think that walking to the beat of your own drum doesn't necessarily makes you a leader.
You might have been given the team lead position because you have the ability to work without constant supervision, which isn't that common. At least that's why I think I've been put in team lead positions at work before.

Personally I feel that just because one doesn't follow the crowd does not make one a leader am I right? This makes for a good pondering. I never thought of myself as a leader before, because of my shyness. Ideally, I am more the artistic "be admired for what I love to do and share" type of person. I suppose if people like my art and/or ideas and I start some trends then I could possibly be a leader in that way. (I also have a passion for debunking health/nutrition myths, heh heh) I'm not sure if I could take the stress of being in charge of a bunch of people counting on me to make decisions. I think you should do what it is you love and let that get you noticed & the opportunities will chase you. ;D

I like eccentric people. Can't say if I've ever really gotten to befriend any though, wouldn't call anyone I know currently eccentric.

I think being eccentric is a good thing in today's world where too many people are "following the crowd" and have forgotten that being true to yourself is not a crime .

No, I don't think it is. But it is an eye drawer. I mean people stare at anything that is not of the "norm." I really admire the fact you can express you self like that.
