Awesome! Congrats Marle, you deserve it. Thanks Zoe. I have said yes to invitations 50% of the time i am asked out by friend or family I don't normally step away from the norm of work-home-sometimes gym-home-work-grocery shopping-home, so i guess it is a victory for me in this instance?? It certainly is. Congratulations.

I didn't know where to put this so I'll bump this thread.
I had recently finished mostly-automating a reporting process that saves many, many hours of manual work through Excel macros for one of my managers. I put a lot of effort into it and I'm pretty happy with the results. My manager comes over to me and raves about... the instructions I wrote for it! It's a document with steps and screenshots on how to produce the report. Later someone else came by and informed me that this manager kept raving to them about this documentation. He told him "it was so beautiful it almost made him cry." I really don't believe my instructions were that great and it amused me more than anything, but that's my recent victory I guess.

He wants to make my group run the report on a regular basis. I'm not sure if that's what our group was intended to do, as we're more technically oriented and this is administrative. However, I think handing tedious processes to people with programming knowledge is a good thing - or at least give it to them initially. I think it's great business sense. You know if I'm forced to do anything redundant and I have the ability to code it, after a few weeks I'll make it as automated and efficient as possible. People without that technical knowledge are sometimes stuck performing tedious tasks, without realizing it can easily be automated, or are afraid to ask if that's possible.

People without that technical knowledge are sometimes stuck performing tedious tasks, without realizing it can easily be automated, or are afraid to ask if that's possible. that is so true. People don't really know what is possible when it comes to technology. I think most workers come to the job and are shown the thing they are supposed to do and they are like ok this is how it is done and so they do it and don't question it. The first thing I was thinking when I read they want it run on a regular basis was to automate that and schedule it to where it kicks off the desired time and goes to the correct distribution list. OTOH, some of the things I have created in the past caused people to lose their jobs which I don't like. I recall one project many years ago they were doing this completely manual filling out logs and things and keeping them in a file cabinet. When I presented it to the manager and her team and taught them how to use it, the manager took me back to her office and hugged me and started crying. These people were so stressed out having to do this thing manually and the demand was increasing along with their other duties. Things like that, made what I did so worthwhile.

A few days ago a customer on the phone told me I had great interpersonal skills and that I was a credit to the company...so I've got that going for me I guess.

Talking of confidence, I had a mock interview last week so I could get an understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.
Afterwards, my interviewer said I had good posture. I had a lovely smile and good punctuality. My answers weren't too long but weren't too short. Good talker and listener. I had good knowledge and exuded confidence. I was quite shocked. I was a bucket of nerves inside. Always nice to hear somebody praise you. I was just putting it on...
She also said I had good eye contact. But I wasn't wearing my glasses. That's a good tip if you're shy. wear glasses, and are having a meeting or interview. Take them off. The interviewer's face is a blur so you don't have to worry about eye contact because you can't see their eyes, but they think you can. Very useful. Takes away all your worry.
It was a nice day.

Over the past few months I've had a few interviews so I've found that I kind of know how to act in interviews and I think just doing them can help, I think having had three people interviews I've gotten better at them, my problem is I tend to not sell myself well, other people will lie and exxagerate their talents whereas I will not whihc is where I tend to fail.

Interviews can be tough, so it's awesome that you feel you are getting better at them. Once you learn how to sell yourself as someone they would want to have on their team, you'll be even better. Although it's true that a lot of people lie to get jobs, it's not always necessary. As long as you sound confident enough in how you answer questions, you'll be seen as a good candidate.

Part of the reason I tend to disappear from here for long periods is because,.. (and I hope nobody takes this the wrong way but,) sometimes this place can be a bit of a downer. There's way to much negativity and not enough positivity going on. That's why I decided to start this thread. I want this thread to be a place for us to share our little victories and not feel weird for creating a brand new thread dedicated to ourselves. Instead of feeling like we're patting ourselves on the back, we can pat each other on the back. We can congratulate and encourage one another to continue etc, etc. So anyway, I'll go first.... As many of you know, I play guitar. Well, this past September I performed on stage for the first time.,..... and then again earlier this month... Actually, I think I'm kinda becoming addicted to performing. Strange thing is, I'm still at pretty much the same place socially. I have little problem going on stage and playing guitar and singing. Yet, holding a decent conversation is still a problem... Then again, I suppose I'm trying to rationalize an irrational fear. Which is just silly! A big congrats to you, fellow guitar player . It does produce a sort of "rush" doesn't it? Thanks for making this thread.

Well I don't know about Victories, but (I hope this counts in this thread), lately I've been doing some more baking, and I've improved in my biscuit making (jokes about the non-existent Aden cat notwithstanding *sneezing laughs*) .
I've been sharing my baked good results with some of the neighbours in the apt building I've been living in since I moved last November end.
The elderly lady (the nice one lol) is really fond of my brownie squares, and now she has become fond of the biscuits. I made her some with white flour after she told me about a week or so, after having shared some made with whole wheat flour, that she prefers them with the former kind of flour. So just this last Friday (yesterday I mean lol) I'm baking in the morning, and about 11 am, I drop her off about 4 of them to try. I visited her last evening, and she told me she loved the biscuits, having already eaten 2 of them and intending to have the other two either that night or the next morning (I forget lol).
So my "victory" (or rather success for me) is I'm improving in my (at least baking) culinary skills. I actually made 2 batches of biscuits yesterday. I shared almost all of the first batch having given 4 to Shirley (the aforementioned lady), and 3 to tenants occupying one of the top floor apts, and 2 to the young girl who occupies the opposite basement apt to mine (I ate only 1 of that batch lol). Then later on, I made a batch with half white and half whole wheat flour. They turned out well too, and I had one with supper both last night and earlier this evening.
I think I love cooking about equal now to practicing music:) - as long as it's Baking .

It can be very satisfying when something you've made turns out well. Plus, you're getting to know your neighbors by sharing!

Well lately I've been working on music and songwriting again. I know I say that every so often. But sometimes I go for awhile not doing it, so that's why I thought I'd put it in Knox's thread here. Lately been working on "Chip off the old Block", one of the songs I'd put in here on another su thread category. Been "audio-izing" it (lol) something fierce lately, getting the words memorized and so forth. Music needs more work as some of the lines have a lot of words in them (either that or I might have to shorten some of the lines). I think I'm making pretty good progress creative-wise, which makes me feel a sense of accomplishment. Plus I've been reading more also. I've given up sweets for the most part (another victory), and even though I've been eating quite a bit the last few days having come off another major bronchitis cold (since the weekend), I seem to have lost some weight (inches), which delights me greatly. I'm hoping I can keep those inches off. I'm wearing a smaller pair of jeans, plus have my sweat pants (for extra winter warmth) on inside the jeans! So I guess there are a few little victories here. Also working on some old "concept album" type songs (see creative thread if curious) from "Force Field" (my version of Pink Floyd's The Wall); and "Status Quo" (which the "Chip off..." song is categorized as part of). Also working on revising some old stuff, getting rid of some of the "high school" themes, and making the themes more general (easier applicable to more people than just teens), such as "What Do I Have to do (To Be Accepted by You)" that I'd written at 16. Music will be the same for that song. For example: the second verse will read from now on: Won't you tell me please what's wrong?/Am I coming on too strong?/I want to spend some time with you/So I don't have to sing this song. Well it's a start, anyway. Gotta do something to get "the guy" off my mind *rolls eyes* LOL. I guess this is it for the update for now.

Figured it would be easier to make a post in here if i just quoted my last one and went from there. this is written from the same day that i am on one of the computers at the library so pls forgive my mistakes lol. well lately iève also been working on music again. not today, but the other day. been working on chip off the old block, as i said above. but the music of it needs a lot of work. other songs iève been doing have been the one called i wonèt pay the price. i really like the music to that one plus i think i have the lead guitar to it all figured out too and have practiced that also which is a plus. i dragged out my old song or part of the song called Nobody which ièd written in 1996 as it is applicable to how iève been treated by keith lately. i forget most of the words so i might try to put some to it. the music is reminiscent of the breakup song by the greg kihn band back in the early 80s so if youève heard or listened to that one, the music to Nobody is very simiilar to that one lol. it is different enough that i wouldn,t get sued it i did manage to do something more with it than just play it at home joking of course just sayin that lol. always to be safe rather than sorry, me i mean. as my dad used to say to me when i was younger blimey i think he thought i was sexually active (which i was not) then sorry lol. he used to say to me in my 20s if you can,t be good be careful and better safe than sorry hahaha. some old songs from force field iève also been practicing namely Zombie which is nothing like the one from the 90s from the cranberries just so you know lol. well i might have to click off so ièll post this for now.
