On larger shy forums, this seems to be a somewhat polarising question. Though cat people may well have a majority. I've always known/liked cats (especially females), only had very limited experience of dogs. I don't understand them, dogs slightly scare me tbh.

I'm a cat person. Less work, more cute.

Neither. They're both evil.
They're on my 'If You Could Eradicate Any Animal Without Reprecussion, What Would You Choose' list. Along with spiders and tapirs.
Cats and dogs wouldn't be on my ark...

Cats! They pretty much take care of themselves, you don't have to rush home to take them out to pee and they generally crave less attention.

Look at some pictures of homeless people and other pictures of soldiers, what animal accompanies these people at their most dangerous, dogs of course, cats seem far more self-serving than any other animals, dogs care more about the group so definintely dogs. I may have been influenced by the many dogs I had growing up.

When we had stray cats visiting our old home, i thought of myself as more of a cat person. But after having a small dog for a pet in the past 7 or 8 years, i've learned to appreciate them. As long as they are small (or maybe even medium sized),cute and friendly.

I prefer cats. They are loving without being needy and pretty easy to take care of.

I do love both, but at this stage in my life I think it's definitely cats. They can be very independent, yet attentive and loving (in a 'ah, here is my slave...feed me now' sort of way).

Well, I'm allergic to both. Cats don't bother the allergies as much as dog, so I'll go with cats. If allergies weren't an issue, I'd probably have one of each!

I like both, but love cats more. They are so adorable.

Can we extend the choices to birds? I love birds. I am a bird person. Parakeets and cockatiels, specifically.
