Being a mod is a very satisfying job. I'm a librarian too and this is a lot like being a mod. I watch over library patrons and make sure they all get along and don't access porn or bomb making sites. I have now applied to be a mod on both the main forums I use, will it ever happen... Congrats Sigh, and lussyen for being part of a choir! So I have now become a mod on one forum. Which is interesting if sometimes awkward, there's a lot to do. But the other forum won't have me, not at the moment anyway. Do regret not applying when they were last asking.

Being a mod on a forum is a thing which never appealed to me, it seemed like work, having to be on a site for a certain period of time, I like to come and go on sites and just disappear for a while to resurface, not have to be there all the time. Also some people become mods because they are power hungry and like to control places.

Just purchased my first smartphone. I finally had to do it.
My 64 year old mother bought one before I did. I decided to buy one because it's just way too inconvenient to travel without one. I still use Tracfone (pre-paid), though. I rarely need to call or text people.

Now I can browse the internet on my lunch breaks at work!

I had my first one in 2010. What I use the most are the GPS, listening to music, taking pictures/videos, calendar, browsing the web. (Yeah. Don't have friends so not many texts or calls... Ahah.) I'm not addicted to it but I find it really useful.

I might as well admit it, I don't have a smartphone. I do have a flip phone though and it's more than enough for what little use I make of it ( plus the battery on that thing has a very long lifetime ). Also, flip phones are absolutely amazing and I don't care if anyone else thinks otherwise .

Flip phones are the best because they make you look so damn cool...
Smartphones, however... no, not for me. They're a bit pointless, really.
Heck, I only got my first mobile telephone last year. It cost £8.
So you can imagine what it looks like.
And what it does.
Not much, as it turns out.
I hate the infernal contraption, to be honest...

I got a smartphone in 2011, I've had it since and I don't think they're designed for longevity unfortunately, I've also had a mobile telephone since I was 12 years old, which I really didn't need as a 12 year old.

If smartphones were mostly just phones I'd agree. But they're really crazy-portable computers, which make them about the best thing ever. So many boring/awkward moments made slightly less boring/awkward by having something else to pretend I need to do. Go shmartpones!
