Hello all, I hope your all doing well. I'm training for the Belfast City Marathon on May 5th. This is going to be my first ever marathon so I'm scared wittless. I'm running for the Huntington's Disease Association Northern Ireland. My older brother has HD - a genetic, incurable illness. Im sitting here trying to type with aches and pains on top of aches and pains.
I was wondering just how many of you have done something like this for charity. Maybe you've done a sponsored swim or something. Let me know. It has only been in the last few moths that I have caught the running bug since I left school. It's a brillaint way to detress.

good luck with your marathon, i've never done one, the only sponsored thing i've done is a sponsored walk which our high school use to hold every year, well it still does, but i've left now.

Hey Shane. I have been walking/jogging/running for a while now. I use the time that I am at the park on the track as MY time to just unwind. We have a 10k coming up called the Crescent City Classic that I will be running in next. This race is really fun because the participants get treated to a party afterwards with food, drinks and a band. Doing marathons aren't really that bad. With all the other people and everything else going on around you, you don't have much time to really think about how tired you are or how much longer you have to go. Plus, you feel so much better for having done it, you get a little high from actually completing the race (or at least I do). Good luck to you . How long is your marathon?

Thanks everybody for your support. It's a full marathon which I think is around 26.2 miles. I've never run that far in my life so I'm working on my stamina and endurance at the minute. I had a pretty hard session in the gym yesterday but I'm not feeling too bad this morning. I'm worried about hitting the wall and everything esle that its possible to hit. I'll keep you all posted on how my training is coming along.
