This drove me crazy. The top image of 14 leprechauns has been split and rearranged into the bottom image of 15 leprechauns. Where does the extra leprechaun come from?

That is crazy! I had to stop thinking about it. Lol.

Classic. I know how it's done...
Look at the bottom photo. The tops of the characters on the left above the line, in particular.
Now look at the top photo. The tops of the characters on the right above the line, in particular.
There's a big clue...

I know that it is related to the various leprechauns in the bottom picture shrinking, but my mind still doesn't get it, because one whole leprechaun comes out of nowhere.
But I've given up thinking about it because it makes my head hurt.

I stared at it for a few minutes, and satisfied my mind with the following explanation. Highlight to see.
In the top picture, all the leprechauns straddle the dividing line. In the bottom picture, two of them don't: one is wholly above the line, one is wholly below the line. It's a convincing illusion because although the 'chauns are grouped into threes, and each group has a top, middle, and bottom one, the actual vertical positions of each character are different. So while the total leprechaun mass is the same between the two pictures, many of the leprechauns in the bottom image are shorter compared to their top-image counterparts. Very clever!

Ugh those are disturbing. Except the last one which is kind of peaceful, one of the better ways for civilisation to end as it surely must eventually.
