Hi...im new here.
I've been shy all my life, and like everyone else it has held be back in life, recently i have been looking at ways to over come this and was thinking that possibly hypnosis could be the answer?!
I know you have to really want it to have it successfully work and want to change. Just wondering if anyone has been hypnosized and if so was it successful?

Hi, I've been to a hypnotherpist. But to be honest, I made the mistake of not concentrating enough on the hypnosis process and just mostly enjoyed talking to my hypnotherpist. It became more of a psychotherpy session and the hypnosis went on for maybe a little longer than it should have. But I do think hypnosis I did with my hypnotherpist worked in another area which was my career. Because I think right after the session, I did actually find a career to try and pursue. But honestly, I think it depends on finding the right hypnotherpist. If you find someone that you like and feel that it works, stick with that person. And I also think it depends on how skilled the hypnotherpist is. Find one that you think is effective. I'd like to go back to hypnotherpy and try and find a real effective hypnotherpist. Quite possibly, I could have found a more effective hypnotherpist who could really help me deal with shyness and overcome shyness if I look harder. I'm not putting down my hypnotherpist, but I think it would have been interesting if I had tried to really stick to overcoming my shyness and only concentrated on this. You see, I was also trying to find a career at the same time. So stick to trying to overcome your shyness I feel. Also, I've tried hypnotherpay tapes with little success. The only one I found successful was a set of tapes I used called Potentials Unlimited tapes by a guy named Barry Konicov dealing with Self Confidence. Honestly, I felt they worked for me. I also tried a self improvement program named the Mental Bank from Hypnosis Motivation Institute. Although this is a form of hypnosis, it is different than typical hypnosis. But I found this self improvement tapes really did incredible things for me. It works by effecting the subconscious and as I found it very effective. It was endorsed by Florence Henderson from the Brady Bunch. Check it out, it uses techniques of hypnosis and is effective. Also, I do self hypnosis on myself. I'm not sure of how effective this is. Because at times it seems to work, but other times, I've been disappointed by the results when I do hypnosis on myself. But if you do it consistently, it will work in the long run. Anyway, check it out, and let me know if you have had any success or tell me your results.
Thanks.
Jim

On the Potentials Unlimited tapes, let me make a correction. The Self Confidence tape I felt worked for me was a 1 tape with a subliminal side and a Hypnosis side. And I also want to say that I do think if you do hypnosis consistently, in the long run I think it will help. I can't be totally positive that it will be totally effective on you, but I think it could help you if you do it with consistency and with effort.

Thanks for your insight Jim. I've used hypnosis tapes before with no luck but i didnt really do them consistently - just played them a few times and expected them to work straight away! I'm determined to make them work this time though. Just purchased a few subliminal hypnosis tapes from SCWL. You need to play them at least once a day for 90 days for them to work they recommend - i am up to my 12th day! I also booked myself in for a hypnosis session with a trained hypnothreapist in two weeks time... I've also tried self hypnosis; i dont know if i had any luck though - it did put me to sleep though! lol

That's great. Please, keep me and us informed of your progress with hypnosis and your sessions. I hope it works for you. This is not an endorsement, but again, I tried Potentials Unlimited Tapes for the self confidence one, and I don't know, it seemed to work a little. I was actually talking to a girl and almost went out with her after listening to this. Just thought I would give you a tape that seemed to work for me. Although, I doubt whether the subliminal tapes work. Subliminal tapes don't seem to work. Maybe they do for some, but not for me. Anyway, keep me informed.
Thanks.

Rifles100, I'm just curious if People in Australia tell other shy or quiet people that "You're too quiet" or "You're too shy," alot? I live in California, and I've gotten that remark from people alot. I'm just curious.
Thanks.

They do say things like that but i dont think they drone on and on about it. They just acknowledge it and move on, i guess - thats what i find with myself anyhow. I suppose it guess what sort of people you are with though. If you are with people who want to push your confidence up they wouldnt but if they want to push it down they would keep pointing it out, probably because they too have low self esteem and want to push you down to pull their confidence up.
I think its best to stay clear of those people who do this to you because it would only make you feel worse about yourself - try and find people that will give you confidence - thats what i have tried to do...

I'm glad hypnosis is helping with some of you. If it's your thing, go for it. But, just to add another perspective to it: When it comes to an actual one on one therapy session, I think you really have to trust your therapist. The procedure is invasive (not physically...that's what we have gynecologists for!) so be particular when it comes to choosing a doctor. Example: I was being treated by a doctor who didn't understand my problem and every word that came out of his mouth was either ignorant or insulting. He milked the whole deprecation thing until it finally clicked that it wasn't working and as a last resort tried hypnotherapy. Needless to say, it didn't work. So, just a cautionary tale for those of you who feel you may need some professional help with this
