Cocoa, may I give you some small advise? (Seen you're not online to reply, I just go ahead ) 1. It is better to write a little bit more "normal". That makes a better impression. 2. You don't sound shy or like you are serious looking for a girlfriend by your use of words (aka your writing style). You sound more like a playboy, so to speak and not very approachable. This maybe sounds a little harsh, just my opinion

Well first of all:) WhAt Iz NoRmaL? ? I have to admit that, that's not the conventional way of looking 4 a mate. (the "lol" just shows my sense of humor). But I'm not gonna change my personality for N-eee-1. The PM's I've received have resulted in some pretty good friendships not relationships. Hence, I'm am finding what I'm looking for:) But like you said it is your opion......Thanx LaMario

I think what Ghost is saying is that if you use proper grammar you're more likely to get a positive response.
The way you type says a lot about you, and people who mispell words on purpose to try and be "cool", just aren't.
You state you are 31 years old. Most people start writing correctly by age 13 (hopefully)
You also say you aren't going to change your personality for anyone, and that's fine. Your writing style is not a personality though.

CocoaFella- "out of the frying pan and into the fire". You best watch what you ask for in here; we may be shy but many are quite direct. If you can't stand the heat.....cool down and join the group.

I know what "lol" means and know someone who uses it often to make clear she is joking. It's not about personality, I don't know you, but a writing style leaves a impression. Yeah, I meant what Alecto wrote. She didn't meant it harsh, just pointed it out more clear, because I failed to do so being careful about it

Is this forum for shy people or uptight people? Nothing wrong with your post, for God's sake. Don't worry about it.

I still stand by my statement. People will respect you more if you use proper grammar. Also, you will look more intelligent.

Ghost, a Global Moderator here, has admitted that s/he makes spelling and grammatical errors.
In fact, I've found that the majority of people here, or anywhere for that matter, use incorrect spelling and grammar from time to time. (I basically grade research papers for a living, so I immediately notice these things.)
Actually, some of the best authors (particularly poets) of the 20th century deliberately bended linguistic rules to convey different meanings, moods, and philosophies.
So keep your writing style Cocoa, and I'm sure it will attract the people it was intended to attract.

A related poem:
since feeling is first who pays any attention to the syntax of things will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool while Spring is in the world
my blood approves and kisses are a better fate than wisdom lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry - the best gesture of my brain is less than your eyelids' flutter which says
we are for each other: then laugh, leaning back in my arms for life's not a paragraph
And death i think is no parenthesis
-- e.e. cummings

"the syntax of things will never wholly kiss you"
I love that line, and it's been one of my guiding principles in life.

I admit that I make mistakes myself, and I don't expect perfection from others. Bad grammar is just a pet peeve of mine.
I do like the poem though. One of the nicest ones I've read in a while

Incorrect grammar tends to be a pet peeve of mine as well. However, I try to control my anal retentive tendencies about it - or, at least when I'm not grading papers.
Glad you liked the poem. cummings is a favorite of mine.
I'm on a literary kick tonight, so here's another somewhat related excerpt, from Benjamin Hoff's THE TAO OF POOH (a *really* good book actually). The passage is about Proper Spelling and related issues:
*****
… you can’t help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn’t spell it right; but spelling isn’t everything. There are days when spelling Tuesday simply doesn’t count.
“By the way, Pooh, how do you spell Tuesday?”
“Spell what?” asked Pooh.
“Tuesday. You know - Monday, Tuesday … ”
“My dear Pooh,” said Owl, “everybody knows that it’s spelled with a Two.”
“Is it?” asked Pooh.
“Of course,” said Owl. “After all, it’s the second day of the week.”
“Oh, is that the way it works?” asked Pooh.
“All right, Owl,” I said. “Then what comes after TWODAY?”
“THIRDSDAY,” said Owl.
“Owl, you’re just confusing things,” I said. “This is the day after Tuesday, and it’s not Thirds - I mean, Thursday.”
“Then what is it?” asked Owl.
“It’s Today!” squeaked Piglet.
“My favourite day,” said Pooh.
Ours, too. We wonder why the scholars don’t think much of it. Perhaps it’s because they Confuse themselves thinking about other days so much.
Now one rather annoying thing about scholars is that they are always using Big Words that some of us can’t understand …
“Well,” said Owl, “the customary procedure in such cases is as follows.”
“What does Crustimoney Proseedcake mean?” said Pooh. “I am a Bear of very Little Brain, and long words Bother me.”
“It means the Thing to Do.”
“As long as it means that, I don’t mind,” said Pooh humbly.
… and one sometimes gets the impression that those intimating words are there to keep us from understanding. That way, the scholars can appear Superior, and will not likely be suspected of Not Knowing Something. After all, from the scholarly point of view, it’s practically a crime to not know everything.
But sometimes the knowledge of the scholar is a bit hard to understand because it doesn’t seem to match up with our own experience of things. In other words, Knowledge and Experience do not necessarily speak the same language. But isn’t the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn’t? It seems fairly obvious to some of us that a lot of scholars need to go outside and sniff around - walk through the grass, talk to the animals. That sort of thing.
“Lots of people talk to animals,” said Pooh.
“Maybe, but … ”
“Not very many listen, though,” he said.
“That’s the problem,” he added.

Nicole this is the first time I've posted here. From what few but significant indications there are in the phraseology and content of your splendid utterances ..........well,.........it's possible you may very well be the woman of my dreams . My singular objective in partcipating in this and other similar forums on the internet is frankly to maybe someday meet a special kindred spirit of the opposite gender. Like you. I think one of my more endearing qualities is straightforward honesty. Also I'm a good speller. I think. There's a whole bunch of information and a photo of me at greensingles.com Hope you'll check it out. sincerely, lostcoyote
