I don't like the mistrust of police forces either, I have a fairly positive opinion of the police force, I do think the stereotype of the police officer who throw their weight around is true on the whole they are good and trustworthy people. I'm not American though so I don't have an insiders view on it but it seems like a lot of these shootings are portrayed heavily in one way by the media in order to portray it a certain way. I think mistrust of the police will only lead to worse things. Thank you for acknowledging this. The media has been terrible, and I think it led to the recent Dallas (Texas) shooting, as well as the general hatred some people are having towards cops. It's never right to fault all of one group based on the actions of a few. The news just beats things over the head until it erupts into chaos. What's even more frustrating are the people that can't even see that. I'm also glad to see the last statement you made, as I feel the same, and it's a scary thought.

...current events occurring around the U.S.
...the media, including social media.
Having trouble sleeping...and having to remind myself to breathe over the past several days. Feeling depressed and hopeless, because the world is forever a scary place.
My blood was boiling yesterday, and most of today...I'm starting to calm down, probably because I've stopped exposing myself to so much.
But I really, really need to rant. It's just one of those long ass weeks, where I find myself hating pretty much everything and everyone and wondering what the hell the point is to anything.
But...I'm concerned I'll be judged if I vent. Because I've felt judged by someone who is supposed to be close to me. Someone who should understand where I'm coming from and not judge me for my thoughts and feelings. Maybe by the end of tomorrow, with it being the weekend, my feelings will wane, and I'll just be content hiding under a rock and secretly crying, without having to vent.

Nothing wrong with a little rant now and then, Strawberry. Thanks, Sweet Pea. Though, you'd think I'd be used to it by now!!! I'll feel guilty if I say too much....I've already confessed some feelings to a friend (my only RL friend really), and my younger sister, and I feel pretty weird/guilty about it. Always crappy feelings. Having lost some of my filter through the years...it doesn't seem to have helped with my feelings very much, at least in some ways. I hope you are doing well.

Having to stand on an absolutely rammed bus for the best part of 40 minutes, packed in like sardines, glad this happens very rarely around here, only to have at least three of the fellow passengers coughing and spluttering right into my eyeballs. Why do people not cover their bloody mouths! They were all adults, for heaven's sake...
Try to forget about it, move on. So I did. Woke up in the morning, full of cold. Dagnabbit. Well, life can't get any worse...
Oh shit, America did what?

Oh shit, America did what?Is it possible for you to adopt some SU members from the States? Speaking of which, the marriage pool for single Canadians just got much larger.

Sure, but we're fairly limited on space.
Two could cram into my spare room if you share a bed, another four or so could squeeze into the conservatory, and there's space out back for a couple tents. The only other space would be in my bed, with me, but that's not a pleasant image...
Don't worry, Donald Drumpf won't last four years.
He'll either get overthrown in some kind of coup that Hollywood will make into a kick-ass movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Don and Bryan Cranston as whoever the hell overthrew him. Of course, there's the very real chance he could be assassinated. He could be impeached. Or he could pop his clogs of natural causes considering he is so very old. Or, he could just get real bored and quit.
A part of me, however, hopes this sexist, misogynistic, womanising and racist lunatic stays the four years until the next election and that, in said election, he's up against Michelle Obama. It would be rather funny if he lost to her. Even funnier if he lost to Kanye, although if that happens, Lassie 2024...

Don't worry, Donald Drumpf won't last four years. This feels like Russian roulette (oddly appropriate metaphor name). What worries me the most is that he will be in control of our military. He has shown himself to be very thin-skinned, so who knows what he's going to do when he's provoked and actually has that kind of power. The only thing that makes me feel slightly better is what you said- he might not serve very long for whatever reason. The best scenario would be for him to quit - anything else would make him a martyr and galvanize his supporters. Then I'd have to endure Pence through 2020. But my opposition to him is for the normal ideological reasons. It's a no-win situation for me. But I don't want to feel completely frightened by who the President is. I have completely avoided the news since the election - this is too much for me. No doubt I will get back into it, but it's going to take me some time. I used to spend several hours a day watching or reading news & commentary. Now I have all this extra time for other things, like catching up on scripted TV shows and documentaries.

The best thing about the current military leaders in America is that they've said they won't follow Drumpf's orders lightly. During the election, he said he would order the military to execute the entire families of terrorists, not just the terrorists. Their wives, children, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, grand children, so on, so forth. "No," said the military. "Yes, you will," he said. "No. We're not doing that." "You'll do what I say." "No we won't," so went the exchange. The military won't stand beside him in everything. The worrying thing is that he could, quite easily, fire the current leaders and bring in his own, but such would feel awfully 'dictatory.' There must be safeguards in place to stop him.
One of the best things about the UK political system is that someone like Trump would never be allowed to do half the stuff he wants. The PM has a cabinet that must agree with what the PM does. Then there's Parliament to see to. Then there's the media, extremely effective here in political intervention. Then there's the House of Lords. Then there's the Queen. In theory, she could deny a Prime Minister elect their appointment to the role, although she's never done it and such would cause absolute mayhem. And don't rule out protest and riots from the great British public. Our Parliament even has a petition service where you can set up a petition and if reaches 100,000 signatures it must be debated in Parliament.
But in America? Their system is crazy.
At least some of what Trump wants can't happen. The Mexican Peso plummeted after Trump was elected, so now they couldn't even afford to build the damn wall...
The best thing is that Trump quits. Anything else, it's Pence to 2020. And even worse, if something happens to him, we get President Paul Ryan, a man who once introduced a bill with a section that would 'allow a rapist to sue his victim in order to stop her from getting an abortion.' Then the Presidency would fall to Orrin Hatch, a huge Trump supporter, who once said 'abortion is 95% of what Planned Parenthood does,' when it's closer to 3%. Imagine that. President Orrin. I mean, the list goes on and on, and none of it sounds rosy.
Interesingly, 'Orrin' means 'little pale green one.' If he becomes President, I think he'd turn that colour fairly quickly...
Just be grateful the new Secretary of the Interior, Sarah Palin, is 13th in line to the golden throne, which it probably will be soon enough...

Just be grateful the new Secretary of the Interior, Sarah Palin... I had to Google this to see if it was real. ...Yep, it is. This is why I have been avoiding the news. My roommate says I shouldn't stay uninformed. But it's too much to take all at once. Bits and pieces of this horror is all I can take. I know what you're saying about the military not taking Trump's orders lightly. That is hopeful. They may avoid committing clear war crimes. But it may not always be that clear - Trump may simply exercise bad judgement. We haven't even gotten to what a Trump/Pence win means for the environment. We had started to make real gains under Obama's administration...

I'm not overly confident on the details of the American secretary positions, but doesn't the secretary of the interior deal with national parks? And isn't Palin a fan of hunting? Just a thought...
I think Trump has also appointed a climate change denier, as well. Something 97% of the world's scientific community says is real.
Well, if doing nothing about climate change doesn't kill the animals, I'm sure Palin will...

He also believes women should have to pay for funerals for miscarriages, believes in shock therapy for LGBT people to turn them straight, encouraged businesses to discriminate against gay couples, believes the Earth is only 6,000 years old, etc. I do believe part of the reason Trump picked him was because of his religious and anti-abortion views, knowing that his views would be enough to win over many Evangelicals and other conservative Christians. I think Trump has also appointed a climate change denier, as well. Something 97% of the world's scientific community says is real. America is f*cked and I guess we're taking the world down with us. Hmm, Mars looks rather nice this time of year...
I can't understand conservative Christians, really. It's one thing saying something you believe in, but another altogether forcing others to live by it. As a Roman Catholic, I can't understand the latter. It's a viewpoint that goes against much in the Bible and also gives Christians the world over a bad name. It's only really in America where the loudest Christian voice is one that is so ignorant and morally unwise. In the UK, you'd be hard pressed to find many Christians who don't believe women have the right to choose and that gays should get married. Just because you don't believe in something doesn't mean you should damn the world to hell with you.
Petitions to stop gay marriage were sent around all Catholic churches and cathedrals in the UK when the gay marriage bill came up and hardly anybody signed it. In my cathedral, I didn't sign it and I nor anybody I know did. I overheard one couple, well into their 70s, say, "Well, the church says it's wrong, but, well, let them be happy, I say." You would find it so hard to find a Christian couple of that age say something similar in America. Literally, the only argument our priest had to sign it was because 'the church told us to.' And it, rightly, passed! It's insane to think that American states could lose something like gay marriage under a Trump presidency, many of whom will actually be Catholics.
And abortion is even worse. I mean, I don't like it at all, but not once would I ever think about telling a woman she shouldn't do it or, if I was in a position of power, would I stop women from doing it. It's their choice, yet another basic human right Trump and his ultra conservative cronies can't understand.
It infuriates me as a Catholic when people like Trump say, "Well, as a Catholic, I feel abortion is wrong and therefore I won't allow it." It's not a dictatorship! Democracy is the will of the people, and most people aren't you, Trumpy. I've had someone say to me, 'Why do you Catholics hate gays?' I knew several who marched in London for gay rights, in fact. The whole situation is messed up. The majority of a religion are getting screwed, the other half are perpetuating old and tired stereotypes that the majority don't believe in anymore, millions of Americans could lose their equal rights, millions more could lose basic human rights, and the whole world seems to be going down the toilet.
Literally, the only good thing about all this is that Trump's lot are the last of their kind. Think of how old they all are. Come a few decades from now, one can only hope that a new breed of Republicans run things, ones that don't let their idea of religion rule their hearts.
Optimism is all we have left.

...anyone who tries to make me feel guilty for being quiet. They say "he thinks he's better than us". Heard it enough times to decide to do it on purpose now. Just to show that I don't care about what they think. They deserve it, trynna make me feel bad for the way I am.
Not having it anymore.
Now I am a voluntary solitary, or volsol for short.
