My voice is weak around strangers and people I feel intimidated by, I would like to change this.

i have the same problem , sometimes my voice cracks or goes hi pitched. what you could do is hum in a low voice while your driving to a place . that will keep it from tensing up probly.

also stand with a good posture, take deep breaths from the diaphram and project as if you were an actor on a stage.

My voice goes like that as well, only in a social environment though, I actually did quite well in university presentatations where you have to speak up.
Does anyone find that sometimes you may start off talking clearly but your voice sort of tails of coming to the end of a sentence. Or worse your stuttering makes it sound like you've stopping talking mid sentence.
Just today when recieving a delivery I said something like this:
"I dont know where they want them so put them down here so..."
I dont know why I added the 'so' part as I had nothing else to say but i made it sound like I did. I always do something like this, another common one is making a statement and then saying 'and' after it despite not having anything else to say about it.

The biggest problem with my voice is that it's incredibly monotone. I think everyone else thinks I'm just an asshole because I never get excited or anything, I don't think they realize that it's part of the shyness.
Oh well...one more thing to work on and hopefully improve.

Just today when recieving a delivery I said something like this: "I dont know where they want them so put them down here so..." lol, that made me laugh that you stop in the middle of a sentence, i don't know why that's so funny. but don't feel bad, i suck at talking as well. i usually mix words around and can't think of what i want to say. streetworm, my voice is monotone a lot too, but not so bad around friends and when i'm comfortable. if i'm sad or pissed off like at work, i talk in monotone and people have a hard time understanding me i guess.

I find slowing down helps me. Trying to pronounce all the syllables too. Take your time, don't rush.

I think the reason for it is that I'm aware that I often appear unfriendly because I always answer in a short consise way. So its like I trying to talk more but back out at the last second because I dont know what to say. It is quite funny when I think about it later, not when I actually do it though.

I do the same thing Paul. It's not so much that I'm trying to talk longer. I think it's just that I want to continue on with the subject and I get mid-sentence and have absolutely no clue what to say next. Maybe just slowing down and thinking about what I'm saying while I say it would help. definately a habit I want to get rid of though. It's one of those things that's fine if you do it every once in a while, but I do it all the time and I can tell it really annoys some people.

Has anyone tried reading outloud to themselves? I heard this is a good way to work on talking the way you want to.

I bought this book and found it to be helpful: "Change Your Voice - Change Your Life" by Dr. Morton Cooper. Check it out on Amazon.com or your favorite Internet book site.

I have a VERY low speaking voice, and many times when I actually do talk no one can understand me, it's so frustrating....
