I think getting drunk on your own is a bad idea. Just because you drink alcohol, doesn't mean you get drunk.

true but if you are alone and lonely you may not initially intend to get drunk it may just happen to mask your feelings. I know recovered 2 alcoholics so this sort of thing is near and dear to my heart.

For sure it can be a slippery slope, one that I was going down myself quite recently. I kind of feel obliged to point out my own circumstance lol but I know what you are saying and you are right. If you drink alone it is a good idea to be aware of your drinking habit. Or any other drug for that matter. Mind you it is good practise to be aware of such things whether you drink alone or not but I guess most of us on here won't drink much socially lol.

I think it's very important to know your limit. Then, develop the control to stop at your limit.

I never knew how much drinking is a problem with alot of people until after a hurricane because everyone was waiting in line for beer and they got out under the worst conditions to get it.
people under the influence are dangerous when every traffic light in your county is out and you have to wait in lines for hours for gasoline and such.
If you dont get killed by a drunk on the road you might just get beat to death waiting in line

what if you feel depressed and say "screw my limit I dont care anymore I dont want to feel anything" then whose going to be there to say "No youve had enough freind" and stop you. If you are in that state of mind then you could do all sorts of bad things anyway. Personally I can't drink to lose feelings, when you are in that state of mind it just makes it ten times worse. I guess I'm lucky I have always been quite mindful of not drinking when depressed. Or at least don't drink alot. No more than four beers because for me, that is usually enough to have a happy feeling without falling to the darkside. Mind you I never drink much more anyway. I don't drink to get drunk, not even with company. Although I don't always succeed in my sober aspirations but that's only once in a while.

Alcohol definitely loosens me up and makes me more outgoing and wild. But there has only been a handful of times that I have been with people I trusted enough to let myself drink and get loose. I always want to have fun w/o worrying about someone taking advantage of me. I don't like the taste of beer, so it is usually punches, mixes, or shots that I do to get loose.

I have never touched the stuff and hopefully never will. I know for a fact that if it made me more confident I would become addicted and I don’t need another problem. The down side is that lots of people socialise at bars and clubs etc and you can’t really go there and not drink so I feel like I may be missing out on opportunities to meet people. Then again I am not sure I would get along with the types of people that are found in nightclubs too well anyway.

I dont drink, and I've never really wanted to start for the same reasons silence mentioned. I have tried some alcholic drinks on the odd occasion and didnt like them anyway.

It does help me. But I have to be quite drunk. It also doesn't help completely. It lessens the nervousness, but doesn't remove it. I will just say and do more "embaressing" things when i'm drunk. But after being near death (0.38%BAC, stopped breathing) alcohol isn't a big turn-on for me now.

That's a seriously high BAC rating! I'm really glad you're still alive!
