Over the past few years, i have aquired 1 snake, 1 rat(the rat is not food for the snake), 1 tarantula, and 2 goldfish. in addition, i have had to learn a little bit about horses because of my job. i really do think that having pets has been a positive force in my life. - i have had to meet and talk to more different people at pet stores and at my job. then i find out that talking to people can actually be kind of fun! - it is a great conversation starter. the only thing about my life that is not utterly dull and mundane is my pets. people are usually facinated when i share what i know about my animals (or they think i'm weird, but they would proably think that anyways). - i have come to realize that even a goldfish needs a buddy. a few weeks ago, one of my goldfish died, and the after a while, the one that was still alive just sat on the bottom of the tank looking very depressed and not eating very much. yesterday, i brought home another fish, and i can see the improvement already. they swim around the tank together looking for stuff to eat. - my pets help me to stop focusing on myself. - the rat is just so darn cute! after a stressful day, who couldn't help but smile at the sight of those beady eyes? my pets cheer me up and motivate me to talk to other people. i just wanted to post something positive today

I did the same thing. The animals forced me to meet new people.

I love being round animals too. They just bring me a lot of happiness. Especially cats, I can just relate to them because they are anti-socials and love peace and quiet. I get along better with cats then I do people sometimes.

I get along better with cats then I do people sometimes. ironically, one of the most social pets i ever had was my cat Pyewackett. he followed me everywhere, and curled up next to me purring at every opportunity.

You're right pets are a very positive influence in life.
At my job I get to work with people's pets everyday and take my own along if I want to. Even though I get bitten and scratched frequently I love nothing more then being at work with the animals. The pay isnt' great, but working with animals is a very rewarding career.

I totally agree! I have a cat, but she unfortunately has to stay with my parents since I am not allowed any pets in my apartment. But, each time I visit her I can physically feel the anxiety and tension melt away. I love her to bits! And as saphron has said, I can also definitely relate better to animals than to people, plus animals do not judge you or turn their backs on you. I would love a job where I can be around animals all day. HybridMoment, are you a veterinary assistant or nurse? I have thought about doing this myself, but I understand that the pay is pretty low, unfortunately. I would probably have to work another job if I were to go into this.

Pets are always nice to have, i agree. I have one bird and one dog. My bird's name is Lime. He used to be part of a set, two birds, one yellow, and one green. We called them Lemon and Lime. My dog loves to play with me, and is always glad to see me. This makes me happy, because even when i'm down and depressed, i know that my dog would always want to cheer me up. Pets really do help cure lonliness, that's for sure. I'm not sure if they cure shyness, but they definitely can curb some of the bad feelings that come with shyness.

If pets can't be a shyness cure, then they are definitely a cure for lonliness.
