I went to see my dentist the other day. He examined my teeth and said i had three cavities, and that i would need to make an appt later to have them filled. He also said it may hurt a bit. To make a long story short, i informed him that for every pain he caused in my teeth, i would break one of his fingers in return. Hey, that's fair, i told him. You hurt me, and charge me money for it, and i'll hurt you back. And i might charge you money for it too. I'm kidding of course. Humor is an excellent cure for shyness, i've found out. Sure does make my day go by easier.

Hahaha that's great! I know what you mean about humor. I find i'm at my most confident and comfortable with someone if I can make them laugh. Plus I feel a lot happier by the end of the day knowing I put a smile on someones face

That's one reason why sometimes I prefer talking to people in real life, so they can tell I'm just being stupid or I can tell whether they are. As for the dentist, it's actually quite a good example for shyness. It may hurt but only for a while. It's short term pain for long term gain. Our problem, in terms of avoidance, is we too often choose short term gain and long term pain.

Yeah, but normal people don't usually wear solid white and come walking towards you with a drill while you're lying flat on your back.

The dentist i go to always shoots my gums up with some kind of drug to numb up my mouth, but i have no idea what it is. Thank god, though. He drilled me a lot this time, and i don't know if i could have withstood it without some kind of drug. All in all, it went pretty well today. I got three cavities filled, and my mouth is near normal again. He didn't hurt me so much this time, so i let him off the hook, hehehe.

I hate the dentist. My teeth are the most sensitive pain area of my body. The past few weeks my wisdom teeth have been giving me pain but its stopped now. Though I do need to see the dentist - I think I have a cavity. I also snapped a tooth clean in half when I was 15 yrs old. Trying to find a NHS/non private/cheap dentist in the UK is a joke though. Come on Tony - WTF am I paying national insurance for!?

Humor helps to loosen me up too, but only with people who I'm comfortable joking with. With people or in situations where I am not comfortable, cracking a joke or attempting humor is very difficult for me mostly because I'm scared that the joke won't be received very well. It's pretty frusturating for me b/c I love joking around and having a good laugh.
As for dentists, I actually like going. o.O; Then again, I've never had a cavity in my life, tho' I did have all four of my wisdom teeth removed a couple years ago, which was a horrible experience.

I worry that most people won't get my sence of humour.
