There's a gland in your forehead and if it doesn't see sunlight on a regular basis, then you can get depressed.

There's a gland in your forehead and if it doesn't see sunlight on a regular basis, then you can get depressed. yeah, the pineal gland. interesting to read about. it receives messages from the retina when exposed to light. it also secretes a hormone called melatonin. it has been called the third eye, and some believe it to be the source of psychic abilities. pineal gland

I actually have a 'light box' that they recommend for treating s.a.d. that I bought last year. To be honest, I can't comment on how good it is, because I never used it for correct amount of time/at the correct distance.

Yeah I can get pretty down during the winter months (and they can be long where I live) due to little sun or warmth. When I get out on my own I'm almost sure I'll be moving somewhere much warmer and sunnier. For the sake of my sanity, I'll need to I think.

Yeah, it also helps you to sleep better at night because we were meant to sleep at night (with help from darkness, which activates melatonin) and be in the daylight in the daytime, plus you'll get some needed vitamin D (the sunshine ;D vitamin!).
