Favorite movie? --Dumb & Dumber

is it preventing you from achieving your goals in life? ... what ARE your goals in life (if any)? --My only goal in life that I have yet to accomplish is to get married (and possibly kids)

To Sol Soul - Sorry to use this great post for something completely unrelated but... Seinfeld is my favourite TV show ever full stop. The Simpsons between 1993-1998 was pretty much just as good but IMO has gone steeply steeply downhill since then, I think the new episodes are devoid of any humour whatsoever. I still watch the repeats from the Simpsons golden era though, absolute classics. BTW I only just noticed that your name "the virgin" is a seinfeld reference to the character played by Jane Leaves (I think thats her name) from Fraiser in the episode "The Virgin". P.S. In an even more unrelated subject I should now be a full 3-star member with this post, YAY!

Well, I'm not a newbie but I have been away for a while so I will answer the questions.
I am married with one child, a 2 year old boy.
I am living in New Orleans, Louisiana USA
I don't know if I have a favorite movie. "Office Space" comes to mind so I will say that for now.
My shyness stems from my social anxiety. I have this fear that everyone is talking behind my back and constantly criticizing me. So, I just assume not say anything or act out going in any way...more fuel for their fire ;D
My parents are still married (to each other ;D) and are best friends, it's sick! They are both retired now and constantly traveling to someplace new.
I had a semi-strict upbringing. I'm the baby of five so I think I had it a lot easier than my eldest sibling.
I don't have any friends, much less close friends. My husband is very outgoing, so I still have some sort of social life (as much as a mother of a two year old can have) but, I have nobody to call, or hang out with on my own.
No, I wasn't bullied in school. I'm fortunate that my parents were able to afford to buy me trendy clothes. I'm certain that was my only ticket out of being the target of a bully.
I think I'm actually pretty good looking, if I don't say so myself ;D There is no self esteem issue with me, other than that little part of me that thinks everyone HATES me.

Actually the virgin you are quite right. After looking at that guide I would say that The Simpsons was great from 1991 from series three, although there were some great episodes before that such as Bart The Daredevil. The Show was superb until about 1999. I feel like you can almost pinpoint the exact point where the show went from genius to mediocre and that for me is an espisode where Homer and his pals tried to get to the Superbowl or something and met Dolly Parton etc. I cant watch any new episodes now, because although it may be ocassionaly hilarious it depresses me to see how low the show has sunk, unlike Seinfeld which was always great and went out at the top.

No. Went to tech school for a year for computer programming before realizing those jobs were being outsourced, now I don't want to go into any more debt for schooling anyless I have a specific objective in mind. Currently with mother/step father and sister. Just moved to this location a few months ago. No, I work at a well known manufacturer of storm doors.. just got the job a month ago.. pretty good so far. Single and Looking No (but want some) Who said anything about escaping? 23 Male I enjoy computers, politics, economics, science, meteorology, and a whole bunch of other things that make me wonder why I didn't go to collage and get a master's degree.. oh that's right, I'm an introvert. I enjoy the outdoors, and romantic things since I am a hopeless romantic and still rather idealistic.. haven't lost hope yet like some have. South Dakota On an acreage 25 miles from work and 13 miles from the nearest town of significance.. I must say, I enjoy the peace and quiet of not being able to hear a sound all day long sitting around in the yard or jogging and never coming across a car.. the greatest. Favorite Band? I have no idea.. I like all hard rock from the late 60's all the way up to the latest Velvet Revolver or Shinedown song. I have sirius satellite radio and get a taste of just about everything on there.. but I must say, nothing beats old school metallica when I get in one of them "can't get the guts to ask out that girl" shy moods. Hmm... being an introvert, I don't actually know the names of the stars in the movies I watch, but I enjoy quite a number of movies, mostly action, like the original matrix (not the other 2) independance day, rambo, and more. I don't like watching romantic movies when I'm single.. I'll save those for when I'm taken. Without a doubt.. my favorite television series.. Family Guy Anybody here reading this who says that shyness doesn't effect something in their life is lying for the most part. I'm shy around women I'm interested in, otherwise I'm just a general introvert who doesn't really have much ambition or drive, and is very non materialistic and simplistic and quiet. Given the choice, I'd rather be a survivalist out in Montana as opposed to overeducated and underworked in some high rise in a large metro area. My goals in life? Stay as debt free as possible, and find true love. Materialism means nothing to me, I can be as cheap as I have to be without thinking a second thought about it. I would make a great father and husband to the right person, someone who doesn't mind those "boring romantic" types. No problems, solid all around. My parents divorced when I was about 5 years old and it did have impact on the way I turned out just via who got custody, no doubt about it.. but I can't imagine things happening differently so I'll leave the issue at that. Average. Not really much to say here. Sister Zero. It's been probably close to 5 years since I've had a true friend.. but it really doesn't bother me that much. Only a true introvert could make a comment like that, right? Seriously, I can't imagine a life without true love and marriage, but really have no desire for casual friends in adult life. I've never been in a meaningful relationship.. I'll leave it at that. Up until high school, yes. I'm 6'1" 185 pounds.. I'd like to get that down to 175, but am average build, and athletic, running 8 miles a week minimum every week when it's warm enough to do so, more when I have time. Physical condition? No. How did I stumble upon this site? I've spent so much time researching and learning about politics, economics, and more over the years online that I decided it was time for change.. what am I going to research now? Human behavior.. from the master of human interaction himself, Dale Carnegie... the man who made countless amounts of money on the saying that it's not what you know, but how you make others feel, that is the key to success. I also looked for messageboards related to shyness and stumbled upon this one. I look forward to talking with other shy and introverted people on this board.

BWAH!! Family Guy is pure comedy.
From the same episode:
Peter's on his way home from the seminar, Brian in tow. He approaches a man and a woman, waiting to cross the street, but there's a huge puddle in the street they have to get over.
Peter (coming up on the woman's side): Aww, let me help you get across, wouldn't want your pretty little shoes to get all dirty" He goes to take his coat off, as if to lay it over the puddle, and she smiles Peter then takes the WOMAN and lays her down across the puddle so he and the man can cross safely.
Love it!
OK, back to your regularly scheduled introducing.

Tell us about yourselves ...
Hi everyone. I'm a newbie and I've got problems, like all of you. I am a college student, 18/M/GA.
Are you living with your parents/grandparents? ... unemployed? ... married? ... children? ... an escapee from a mental institution? ... a troll living under a bridge?
I currently live in a dorm.
Are you living in a town, or an unincorporated rural area?
I live in the greatest city in the world, Atlanta.
Favorite movie?
Aliens (1986)
What is the nature of your shyness? ... is it preventing you from achieving your goals in life? ... what ARE your goals in life (if any)?
My shyness if pretty bad. I can mask it very well, and I at least get along with guys, but girls, BAM. Plus, I have trouble fitting in. I'll explain later, but just know it's prevented me from doing many things I wished I could've done. I really have no specific goals in life, except to do something meaningful.
What is the nature of your relationship with your parents? Have your parents been able to maintain the viability of their relationship? If they have separated/divorced, how old were you when it happened? ... and did it have a major impact on your own life?
My relationships with my parents is pretty bad. I grew up in an abusive family and it had a profound effect on me. My parents have a pretty rocky relationship. it was a force marriage with absolutely no love.
Did you have a strict upbringing? ... are your parents over-protective?
It was fairly strict, but it was sort of a "my way or the highway, you are not in control." I really don't know, actually. Somehow, i feel like I was never brought up because it was so abusive.
Any siblings? Older sister
How many friends do you have? ... any of them that you would consider "close?"
I have no friends. Only meaningless acquaintances
Have you ever been in an intimate relationship? ... still a virgin?
Never been in an intimate relationship. Still a virgin.
[Were you]/[are you] a target for bullies in school? ... held up for ridicule?
At one point, but not anymore.
Are you over-weight? ... under-weight? ... physically disfigured? ... handicapped? ... speech impediment? ... poor eyesight (requiring thick glasses)?
I am pretty skinny, my eyesight is bad, but I don't need thick glasses.
Do you have a physical illness/condition that is limiting your life?
I hope not!

Welcome Way. Consider yourself lucky to have found this forum at such a young age.. you still have your whole life ahead of you, but make no mistake about it, I feel your pain.
I'm 23 and only now am I starting to take a serious look at myself and actually make change, but it's slow going. I'm also introverted as well as shy around women.. the two tend to go hand in hand although not always.. some extroverts can be shy and introverts have no shyness, etc.. for me it's just shyness around women.. my introvertedness has translated into lack of ambition, a wish to live the simple life, which is fine by me as that's what I want... but since the only thing I really want out of life is true love, marraige, and a family, being so non materialistic and simplistic, I must work on my fatal flaw, shyness around women.
As for the family Guy, I was always a fan of the copyright infringement that the family guy does, from the mentos commercials to the cool aid guy bursting in during the court proceedings to the sun dumping two scoops of raisins all over everything, to the scooby doo bit and the sesame street bit. I got every episode on DVD on ebay for dirt cheap from someone who basically ripped them from tapes and sold them before his user ID was pulled.. good deal for the money.
