Hello, everyone. I'm from Florida, the psychotically hot state, and I go to highschool. I've always been pretty shy, but somehow i've always managed to attract other outgoing people into talking with me. That's basically how i make friends. They talk to me first. Once High School hit, however, no one talked to me first. They all already knew each other from middle school, and now i'm practically a social recluse. I can't even try and make new friends because they all know each other really well by now and all they do is gossip about people i dont know... Anyway, I'm glad to have found these boards because you all seem really nice and understanding. I hope to be posting more and just wanted to say hello.

Hello! That stupid middle-school to high-school shift... I had the same trouble, and it was so frustrating! In 8th grade in middle school I was actually starting to make friends and be comfortable being myself even around the outgoing guys who'd made me shut my trap and cower in previous years. And then along comes high school--sweeps friends and acquiantances away to different schools, and leaves me alone in a new school where everyone knows each other from the other middle schools. Thinking about it, I really miss some of those people. I'm so terrible at keeping in contact, I haven't spoken to almost any of them since Freshman year of HS. I made some few friends in HS through luck, continued exposure to the same people, and in some cases intense determination... But it's not the same! lol. I miss those middle school peoples! The world just isn't set up to benefit shy people. Sigh... Now I'm all nostalgic and stuff! Anyway, welcome--I'm sure you'll find lots to identify with here. And psychotically hot? Great way to describe Florida, hahaha. ;D I was there in August and I felt like I needed to be put out of my misery every time I stepped outside. I don't know how anyone south of Orlando is able to accomplish anything so much as walking next door in such heat!

Welcome to SU!!! You're not alone in this high school bullcrap; many members have breezed through here seeking help in school on a social level. Don't let high school get to you too much; it's not intended to be so much of a social club for people. You're there to learn, about information and about yourself. Oh, i also live in a psychotically hot environment.

Thanks you guys! High school is okay, i suppose. I just comfort myself by thinking "Will my social problems matter in 10 years?" No. No they will not. I'm just focusing on learning right now, which is going pretty well.
Florida is really nice this time of year! I was just outside playing with my dog, and it is perfect weather. It's really pretty out and stuff. It's sunny, but really cool. Isn't that odd? Winter is when the nice weather comes around.

the good thing about hs is when it is over none of the social bullshit means a pile of beans.
I have seen very few people from hs in many years and don't car to. I did just fine without them.

I strongly considered moving to Florida. Teh sweltering humid heat in the summer is a downer.
But I know I love being close to teh ocean and no snow.

Oh my god. the humid heat is horrible. I cant go outside and if i do, it feels like i'll melt on the spot. The humidity is the worst part. Horrible place to live, honestly. You should go to California! It's really nice there. And it's near the coast too.

Welcome ;D Where in Florida are you? i'm in South Florida (in Palm Beach county)...way too hot for me,lol. It was cool today though, really nice. I can't wait to move north though, lol. I miss snow! Personally i felt my life got better after i left HS. It's easier to work on your shyness when you get away from all the immaturity ,lol. How many years of high school do you have left?

Welcome Sable.
I grew up in Florida, though moved a little north 5 years ago. I'm missing the weather in FL now, but didnt a few months ago.
I intensely looked forward to college in high school as well - it was an appropriate anticipation. While I'm probably still just as much on the outer rings of any social circles, I feel more in place for whatever reason.
