I don't think technology turns people shy, but I think it enables other problems. When I was a kid no one had cell phones and are computer didn't even have a hard drive. I however was still shy. I didn't suddenly get more shy as technology evolved. When I started a new school I was very reserved and it took me a long time to make friends. Wether it was 1890 or 1990 the fact was I was still shy.
I think a big part of modern technology has made us more selfish and self involved. If you look at facebook many people post inane things that they think other people actually care about. It's nice to be able to see big things like someone having a child or a birthday, but I really get worried when people think I care that they went to TGI Fridays for dinner.
