Living where I am (same place) there are times I feel like I have to "hold back" because I don't want to disturb other people with my music or singing, though I don't own an electric guitar or drum set, etc.
I feel quite inhibited at times, and would like to project more in my voice when I am singing.
I think the only thing that would make me feel more comfortable to sing louder would be to have my own private studio in a home (not apartment) of my own where only I would be there.
Just wondering if any of you ever have difficulty singing out because of shyness?

Yeah..I don't like singing in front of people at all. Actually, I know I'm really getting super comfortable around someone when I can sing something, anything in front of them.
I feel most uninhibited with singing when I'm in my car (with windows rolled up). I can crank up the music and sing as loud as I want to (since no one else is usually in there with me). It's the best! ;D
I have an apartment and can understand what you mean. When I started practicing guitar even, I felt a bit bothered thinking I may be bothering someone (since I'm just starting out, especially). And, I don't really sing in my apartment, though I can softly.
The only times I really sing in front of someone is when it's time to sing "Happy Birthday" (and it's usally within my family)...and the times I've sung karaoke with my sisters in my parent's basement. I really don't like singing in front my parents, though.
But...keep in mind, I'm not a good singer....at all! And I realize this. lol. I just sing for fun and sort of in a goofy way. My attempts at harmonizing are even worse...haha. So I think my inhibitions with my singing are for the good of mankind, lol.

I sometimes sing if i'm absolutely sure no one will hear. Usually loudest if I'm home alone. That's the best time.

I can't sing so wouldn't sing in front of anyone else. I guess my insecurity makes it worse. Sometimes when I'm at a concert if I happen to sing I don't even want to sing too loud incase someone nearby hears me over the music/vocalist and thinks I can't sing lol.

I sing while I walk down empty roads or better yet, next to a freeway. You gotta sing out loud if you want to hear yourself.

Sing? I have problems talking loud enough for people to hear me.

Too shy to sing because I don't have a clean voice. I can only imagine what the American Idol judge panel would have said.

sure i do sometimes...absolutely. but i'm perfectly capable of belting out a tune if i'm in the right state of mind too. i used to sing in a church choir and really enjoyed it. at times i'll even break out singing in a grocery aisle when a great song comes over the speaker system before i even realize what i'm doing. so...just depends i guess. i blame my shyness about singing on a 6th grade music teacher named mrs. bullwinkle (no i'm not kidding). she was the simon cowell of the kindergarden set. she put me through a pretty humiliating experience and told me i couldn't sing in tune (in front of everybody of course). i found out later that she prolly didn't want me in the school choir for personal reasons - something that had occurred between her and my dad and had nothing to do with me.

Those people were prepared to sing. Or at least knew they were at risk of singing!

Certain amounts of alcohol may help explain the phenomenon of karaoke.
