In general, most people are too shy to sing. PERIOD You can PERIOD all you like, it doesn't make your statement fact. The guys at my workplace sing loudly and badly all the time throughout the day.

I always see people on the streets(with their headphones on) sing along to their tune. I rarely see someone who doesn't. ;D (Sarcasm)
I guess that was my source. But now, I think you guys are right. They're not shy. I think it's because they don't want to look stupid singing 'hit me baby one more time'. ;D

I don't. I always have my disproportionally-sized earphones in while I'm walking home after classes. For some reason, one side is really short.

Certain amounts of alcohol may help explain the phenomenon of karaoke. maybe. but I am one of those people that actually do WORSE after having consumed some alcohol. I remember this one time (usually I don't drink a lot in the clubs, I mostly drink at home once in a while a glass of wine with supper, that sort of thing,) I had a drink, and I went up to the mic to do a couple of songs, and I got so confused that I didn't realize it was the background vocals behind me in the song. I'd thought they'd put on the side of the CD that had the lead singer singing the particular song I wanted. That was a blip, lol! So I said to myself after that, no more drinking if I'm going to sing at a club, because I get too confused, lol! I was right the first time (meaning all the times I usually didn't drink when I went to sing karaoke - and I did well and didn't get confused), ha ha! Lately though I want to go to karaoke, but I'm just too shy to go because I don't have anyone to go with and I'm tired of sticking out like a sore thumb or whatever by sitting by myself at a table or at a booth. so I guess my shyness is worse now. of course the way I look doesn't help matters any. Now I just stay home, watch American Idol (it's getting really good now, Adam is my favourite so far!), sing along with them, and cheer them after they've done performing, etc.

I don't. I always have my disproportionally-sized earphones in while I'm walking home after classes. For some reason, one side is really short. my earbuds are such that the cord hanging from the left ear bud is shorter than the right ear bud cord. I bought 2 small headphones at a "dollar store" no good for nothing! They got no sound in them, meaning the sound is very low in them. bunch of cheap thiings, but I thought at least there would be VOLUME. My earbuds have more volume. What a bloomin' waste of money! It wasn't much - only $1.50 each, but it makes me >:(irritated that not only I bought 1 pair, I thought I'd buy a spare just in case one breaks, and they're just sitting in my room and I'm still using my earbuds!!!

I like the ear buds made by Sony, except the one that came with my walkman mp3 player. The ones I bought for $10 two years ago for my old mp3 player are still working in my PC.

Christ I'm even embarrassed to sing when I'm home alone. I live in my parent's house and they can be gone for a week, and I still won't sing. The main reason is that I know how terrible I am. I once got drunk while playing rock band with some people. I sang... Unfortunately, I wasn't drunk enough to subsequently forget the experience. It was terrible.

Now I feel too shy to sing lately, I mean. There's Karaoke opened up Thursday nights right downtown only about 10-15 minutes from home, and I get all psyched up about it when I remember it Thursdays, but when evening comes (when it would start), I chicken :Pout, and either go buy chocolate (ha!) or stay home and watch tv (as usual). Such is life with old audio .

Well, this is one symptom of my shyness that I'm going to have to get over somehow. I enjoy playing the guitar and singing, but I find it hard to practice for obvious reasons I would like to play and sing for other people or maybe one day for a band (!) If I get some mates who can play decently, then it'd be fun to jam and stuff, you know? I want to improve my singing because I'm the only one who can sing my songs, so even though that's not exactly my strong point, it's gotta be done lol. Aw audio, I hope you get the courage to go up there. I've always thought that karaoke must be so fun...not that I ever partake in it

ha ha ! zerosum, it's not "getting up there to sing" - my problem is walking into a bar by myself and sitting there by myself - sticking out like a sore thumb, as it were. I love to sing, but it probably won't be at a karaoke bar again unless one of 2 things happens: 1/either I bite the bullet and go in and have everyone stare at the obvious reason why I'm alone (ugly); 2/find some lady (it'll have to be a lady, for it won't be a man) that's not scared of bars, who will be kind enough to accompany me. :)Thanks for rooting for me, though, zerosum, I appreciate it. Too bad you don't live in Fredericton, I'd ask you to accompany me just for fun ;D of course, lol!
