Has anyone here ever seen a show called Bananas?
I was up late last night again at a ridiculous hour and oddly enough came across this show.
The episode I saw featured "shy comedian" Sara Shea.
Now, I know other famous, funny people have claimed to have shyness troubles...Johnny Carson comes to my mind first....but he's not one who is visibly shy. He looked very comfortable and confident in front of a group of people.
Sara Shea, however, actually appears shy. She can't seem to hide it. More often than not, she looks down or away (away from direct eye contact) and her voice is rather meek and soft. Physically, it seems she has some nervous habits, such as touching her hair and the way she gestures or moves her hands. Sometimes her jokes don't even come out so smoothly...you know, she'll pause, say "umm"...things like that. Put simply, she just doesn't look very comfortable and even looks somewhat awkward in front of a crowd.
But she made some jokes about shy people. Not mean jokes or anything. Just jokes about how a shy person will perceive a situation. I thought that was pretty cool.
Overall, I just found it rather interesting to watch. Mostly, it seems comedians are very loud, running across stage, sounding practically overly confident, etc. So it was really interesting to see the opposite. And I was very surprised simply because of the obvious shy nature.
So, I guess I'm wondering if anyone has seen this? Or heard of any other visibly shy comedians?
Definitely not a job most very shy people would even consider.
I couldn't find a youtube video of her or anything, but here's a link that shows a little about her: www.bananascomedy.com/home
