This is a new Star Trek mini-series in novel form going back to the classic times of Kirk's Enterprise when he was a new captain. The Series entitled Vanguard centers around a huge, highly advanced space station named, guess what, Vanguard of course. This station guards an expanse of space called the Taurus Reach, which borders on the Klingon territories and the Tholian territories. Tempers flare among all three nations, each one at the others' throats. Book 1: Harbinger, takes place shortly after Kirk is given the Enterprise and ventures to the edge of the galaxy. Kirk learns about the Vanguard station, and it's construction speed surprises him. The problem is complicated when Kirk has the Enterprise dock at the station for repairs. Kirk is puzzled by Vanguard's complexity and the secrecy surrounding the CO's operations. There is much more to the station than meets the eye, and Commodore Reyes' commanding of the station is not too informative about his goals and instructions. As the Klingons and Tholians lovingly cohabitat with each other (yeah, right) Reyes suspects his crew and staff are in over their heads. Vanguard station unknowlingly guards an ancient, powerful secret, and one that will erupt into chaos and drive everyone to the edge of their nerves.

there's one for my "wish list" russ, lol . Definitely an "edge of one's seat" or "can't put down" type book. The intrigue is tempting enough for me to buy it. Finances permitting, I hope to get this one...someday ;D, lol. To be honest, I cannot imagine Commander Loskine ("The Tholian Web"/OS) and someone comparable to Klingon Commander Kor (on the episode about the Organanians, STOS), for an example...cohabitating - even on a political level, lol ! nice reviews, btw ~audio

Yes, the Klingons and Tholians don't get along so well. In fact, for once the Tholians are the more accetping and reasonable race for this series. Oh, did I mention the Orions are in this series too? I''m not particularly fond of the Orions but they bring a lot of underworld drama to this one. The Tholians are indeed my favorite ST race, by the way. They seem very down to earth and like to rock, hehehe.
