Alright, this has happened to me many times but the fact that it continues to happen is really annoying. Normal people (people who can talk to another human being on a whim) always ask me why I don't talk. Then I have to answer in this awkward sort of way, but today this girl who I am really starting to not like... (because she thinks because I'm quiet she can use me to do her assignments for class) comes up to me while I'm waiting to buy my lunch. She comes up to me and says things like, "Oh nice headband... cute shirt," while her friends are snickering behind her like little rats. or something that snickers... lol And I'm just standing there awkwardly (my usual stance--the awkward stance). Then she goes on about why don't I talk? And why am I so shy. And I'm just like. I don't know it's just my personality. NOT TO MENTION throughout this she keeps calling me ANDREA and my name is ADRIANA and I've told her that before. ( I hate when people can't take a second out of their precious lives to remember a name that's been told to you multiple times and I always feel pathetic because I know theirs) and anyway she keeps going on about my quietness while her friends laugh. And it's pissing me off the way she's talking to me like I'm a child and it's pissing me off that I'm letting her. >=/ So yeah i just turned around and got my lunch. And didn't do or say anything. As usual. This post sort of went off-topic and I don't really know where I was going with it. Question: Do you ever feel totally stupid when someone doesn't know your name even after you've told them it, but for some reason you know their name? I always know names just from listening to other people talk. Which is pathetic. And no one ever knows my name. But on those rare occasions someone does remember it I immediately grow fond of them. Which is pathetic as well.

I know what you mean. I've been there. My name is Christine and people will call me Christina which is not the same thing and it bugs me. Once when I started my job, the receptionist yelled at me because I was out one day and she said she had about ten calls for me. SHe said "Christa you had all these calls and I didn't know where you where and didn't know what to tell anyone." I wanted to say first of all you are not my boss, and 2nd if 10 people called here asking for "Christa" thats not my name so they weren't looking for me."
It is frustrating and annoying. But people who are going to laugh at you and be stupid aren't worth your time so just try to ignore them. They have pathetic lives if all they can do for fun is laugh at someone else. I have no idea why outgoing people think its ok to ask us why we don't talk. It's a dumb question and like you said it just makes everything more awkward. I know it makes me feel like I"m retarded or something or that something is majorly wrong with me. Like I'm an alien. And I have no idea how to respond. Just keep your head up.

I'm actually kinda bad with names so I'm very relaxed about people forgetting my name, though its pretty hard to confuse Kevin with anything else lol. For this situation though, sounds like they know your name, they're just giving you a nickname for whatever reason, in this case probably to tease you a bit. This practice happened a lot at my high school and to me. I have about 4 nicknames now that I still go by that all developed in high-school and I was dubbed with a new one just the other week, so Sheldon (from big bang theory) brings it up to 5 . There was also a new guy at our school called Ryan, but within a week of him being there he was known to the entire school as Larry for reasons I cannot remember. Also a new kid called Amman showed up one day and in the first week he was known to the entire school as Fez. So my advice is to just laugh it off, have some fun with it if its really cheesy (one of my nicknames is K-dawg lol, even my brother calls me that), but otherwise don't let it get to you. These girls have probably taken a liking to you if they've given you your own nickname. If you really dislike them though and want to get rid of them, here is what I would do. Next time they ask why you are so shy and why you don't talk, respond with something absolutely cold, such as "Better than talking to superficial trash like you, get the fuck out of my face with your meaningless pitiful existence." Best if it comes out of nowhere and completely shocks them ;D . (I take no responsibility for any consequences that may occur from using my advice )

Lol Christine you should have said that to her! I bet the look on her face would've been priceless. And geekguy XD I'm sure if I ever got the guts to say that to someone they'd be shocked for like 2 seconds then they'd probably punch me in the face! But the thought cheered me up. Btw, I found out the only reason this girl is talking to me is because she wants to be in my group for a class assignment so she can let me and my partner do all the work while she just takes the credit.

Hi, most people don't forget my name, so I'm guess I'm lucky. They just call me one of several nicknames, or they confuse me with my brother lol. There's nothing wrong with remembering things, sometimes people are jealous that I can remember names and dates . I understand what you mean though. I hope those girls stop bothering you.

Thanks Robe. :] And today she happened to do it again. Now I just don't say anything. It's embarrassing though that she calls me Andrea and I acknowledge it. Anyway hopefully she will take the hint and leave me alone. Thanks guys

When people ask me why I'm quiet I take a page from George Carlin and tell them I have a low tolerance for bullshit and that the majority of stuff coming out of other people's mouths is bullshit. I don't like bullshit, so I avoid spewing it. That's my answer to that question.

"I don't know it's just my personality."
I thought that was a good response. If people don't want to accept that, they're just trying to be jerky. I would say just ignore/avoid them. A good book to read is "Don't Let Them Psych You Out!" By George Zqourides.

I'm a little late to this party, but the best way to get around this is to give this girl the wrong answers. I used to do this many times in school with people I didn't like and trust me they won't try to use you anymore. This one girl used go around telling people I was a bitch because I didn't talk very much. You know when somebody is talking about you being shy loudly? That was her. So one day, she comes up to me while we were working in small groups (I was super lucky to be working with friends in this class) and starts being really nice and asking me for all the answers. I gave her wrong but very plausible answers and she walks away going "I'm smart" (because she agreed with these answers during our conversation even though she had no idea what we were talking about) and shares these answers with her group. They spent the rest of the class period just talking away telling our teacher they already finished their work. Priceless looks on their face trying to explain their answers to the teacher when the got called on later. I know it was a little evil on my part, but I would have helped her if she was a nicer person.

What does that mean? I'm assuming it's a high-five of sorts, but I can't figure it out!
