Matt Smith has quit. He will regenerate in the Christmas special.

I was so hoping he'd do at least one more season.

The 12th Doctor will be unveiled at 7 PM GMT, on Sunday. There'll be a 30 minute broadcast that sounds incredibly cheesy and forced. I feel so sorry for 12. It sounds like he's gonna be thrown in at the deep end: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/The-Next-Doctor-will-be-revealed-on-Sunday-04-AugustI've heard it's gonna be broadcast on BBC America. I don't know if it's simulcast or not, but I'd think so. Regardless of the cheese, it does sound very exciting indeed. Good luck to him. Or her. Or it. Hopefully him...

^Surely it's high time for a female doctor! I must try and get into watching more episodes, can only remember one or two such as one about the place where faulty daleks are dumped. That was quite funny somehow.

I believe it's called Cash Converters...
I think the vast majority of people who want a female doctor want one because they think it's sexist and misogynistic that they've never even considered a woman. Around 90% of those who want a female Doctor want one for this reason. It's ridiculous. It's the best actor, it's not social commentary.
Traditionally, it's been a man. I don't like breaking with tradition. Sure, the Doctor could be a woman, but why? 11 men, it's become something of a staple of the show. If they are going to change it to a woman, well, we all know, being the BBC, land of equality, that it'll be entirely for the type of feminists who go absolutely nuts at anyone who dares question them.
They'll pick a man to avoid an argument. They always will do. If they don't this time, and go for a woman, I wouldn't want that because it'd be for the wrong reasons.
How much say does Moffat have and how much say does the Beeb have? Answer that question and you'll know who the next Doctor is.

It's not misogynist to only have on gender of the character, they should be free to have who they want, just because a small segment of fans want a change doesn't justify it.

I can't work out if you're for or against it, ura.
Misogyny was the wrong word, I meant that 90% find it offensive that a woman shouldn't be considered. They think it's a gender issue when it isn't. It's an issue of tradition.
I agree the Doctor should be the best actor, but I'm a man of tradition and not at all prone to rocking the boat. Traditionally, I prefer a man, but at long as the actor is good, you'd get used to it if it was a woman.
Oh, and Sunday special will be simulcast on Beeb America. 2 Eastern Time, I think.

No, I'm saying he shouldn't change the gender of the character or have the gender of the character changed because the BBC wants to enforce "equality", it wouldn't exactly by equal or fair if he was forced to change the gender of the Doctor in order to appease some fans. Like you said if they pick a woman it wouldn't be because they wanted a woman but because they wanted to be fair which is the wrong reason to choose the doctor, besides I always thought that Doctor Who had enough of a female appeal anyway considering how many women I know love it. What I'm trying to say is trying enforce equality is actually an unequal and unfair thing to do, it's like having quotas in politics.

And it is...
Peter Capaldi.
Brave choice. No idea. I don't like The Thick of It, and I haven't seen anything else with him in it.
Moff has said that the 50th sees a new change in direction for the show - very, very brave.
Not sure. Should be interesting. Not what I was expecting. Then again, Hartnell was 55.
Something's not right about this, but I don't know what.

Will this bring a new and very sarcastic doctor into Doctor because if that's the case then I might watch Doctor Who again.

Day of the Doctor was super awesome! I was still hoping Eccleston would actually come back for it, but stock footage works too I guess. Capaldi cameo plus Tom Baker makes up for it though! I also watch the Five(ish) Doctors reboot, which was pretty hilarious and an awesome way for the classic Doctors to get involved. And now the wait for Christmas, lol.

I just thought it was staggeringly good. The visual effects I'd say we're Hollywood-esque, but I think that do them a great disservice. I just couldn't believe I was watching something British. Made me so proud. Even if it was co-produced with BBC America. The acting was phenomenal and the comedy was sublime. Everything worked brilliantly. I'd recommend reading the Wikipedia page for the episode, it lists some Easter eggs such as the number for the Vortex Manipulator reading 1716231163, or 5:16, 23rd of November, 1963, the time and date it first aired. Also, the head of the school had the same name as the writer of that first episode. Little touches.
You could talk about it for hours.
At lest we got a regeneration into Ecclestone, even if we didn't see him, and Tom Baker's mysterious appearance blew me away. And has led to several million arguments online about who he is (Doctor's brother, for me). And Capaldi, well, that sent me over the edge. I'm not at all looking forward to Capaldi, I just don't think he's right for it and won't be as good at Matthew, but I have to admit, he has magnificent eyebrows. Steven Moffat has said Capaldi's first season will be a bit like Tom Baker's first, we're he's all a bit crazy and doesn't know what's what. Could be interesting.
The idea that Gallifrey is still out there is a wonderful one. I do wonder if one or more of the 2 billion children were The Doctor's. As horrifying as it may sound, he may have lost them and maybe he thought he was saving them. But without The Moment they may still be alive. What a lovely thought. I wonder if the playing children were his. We don't know how many he had. There are some really exciting times ahead.
Oh, and I loved Tennant repeating 'I don't want to go'. So many people hated his final line, the idea that he may be referring to Trenzalore is an intriguing one. I imagine 10 regenerated not long after the 50th ep. He may still have remembered. It's a stretch, but I'll take it.
I think the episode got around 10.5 million viewers in the UK, up around 5 or 6 million more than usual. Really good to hear, especially when you consider that it aired two and a half hours later than normal.
The Five (ish) Doctors was brilliant, too. Albeit sullied by Colin's comments afterwards.
I don't know if you got the 10 second Christmas episode trailer in America, but it looks great. Silence, Weeping Angles, and many more. Also, it's been revealed today that an actress will appear in the episode playing somebody for the Doctor's past. Hmm. Romana, Jenny, Susan?
Interesting indeed.
Roll on the next 50. Hey, I could still be alive when it turns 100 in 2063. Oh, wow. I'd be 73. Gotta start eating healthy...
Anything for The Doctor...

I pretty much agree with what you guys said, this episode war really quite good, it was fantastic to watch and I didn't even notice time passing until it was already over ( which is always a good sign when you're watching any TV series, it means you weren't bored ). I was however quite saddened by the fact that Eccleston wasn't in this episode but I guess you can't get everything. I'm looking forward to the Christmas special and whatever awaits us next season.
