I am now officially an Australian citizen!!!! Ceremony was great. Lots of good food afterwards. WTF? This is bullshit. I never got free food for just being Australian. Congrats anyway, though.

I think it depends on what part of the US they are from. It could also be "Ausi Red Neck" or "MidWestralian" perhaps.

Isn't the Australian citizen ceremony the one where you have to dance to the national anthem? Or was my brother lying when he said that's what he had to do?

I did another variety show this past Thursday. This was the first the first time I never really got any butterflies or nervousness at all......
It was weird... In a strange way, i kinda missed the anxiety. It's such a familiar feeling that once it went away it left me feeling like i don't know who I am anymore... I should be happy that I defeated anxiety (in at least on aspect of my life)... but I just don't know.
OK Tim, Shut up,..You said too much,..... lol

So, I've been searching for answers as to how I can defeat shyness. If you knew me, without a doubt you would know me as "the shy one". I think maybe I was just trying to hard, searching too much for answers. When really... it was so simple. It's a crazy mind game... I dont know if it was just coincidence or not but this is what I did. I woke up in the morning before school and just kept telling myself that I wouldn't have an anxiety reaction today. That was the first day I didn't have any anxiety. I did the same thing the next day, it worked. And the next day, it worked. As I kept getting through each day it just really gave me alot more confidence and I really started to relax. It's such a good feeling when you know you're on your way to overcoming shyness. By the way I'm 17. I've been shy my whole life. We have to remind ourselves too that shyness can be related to your personality... You may look at other people so happy and full of energy... that doesn't mean you have to be like them. Personally, I have more of a relaxed personality. I used to always take it out on myself that I wasnt a certain way. But at the end of the day, who I am is okay. People really appreciate you if they know you've accepted yourself. To many people (if any) you probably think I'm speaking gibberish. It would be interesting to know if anyone actually reads what I put on here... anyways. my tip to everyone is start out telling yourself what you your day is going to look like. blah blah blah anyways thats my two cents

Congratulations on the breakthrough. I think it took me until I was almost 27 to make a breakthrough on my shyness like that, so your 10 years ahead of me. Of course girls do mature faster than boys. As you say it really is all in our mind. Shyness really is a chemical reaction in our brain and if you can learn to control it there's a lot you can do that you never thought you could do. I do a similar thing when I go dancing. I try to tell myself that women enjoy dancing dancing and talking to me and it helps improve my confidence and in turn seems to help make me more attractive to women.
Your writing is not gibberish. Its actually a very good post with great information and ideas for others who have not made the same progress as you. Great Job!!! I hope you continue to have great breakthroughs.

This is in a more smaller scale of things...but i pushed myself to go to a social anxiety group meet up in the city and it went ok.
I have said yes to invitations 50% of the time i am asked out by friend or family
I don't normally step away from the norm of work-home-sometimes gym-home-work-grocery shopping-home, so i guess it is a victory for me in this instance??
