This was an SAS thread, not my idea. I still have a few VHS/SVHS (enhanced picture but needs special tapes) machines that I got cheap or free, use them occasionally with my bedroom TV. I'd like to see a Betamax in action, but surely never will. I have a lot of VHS tapes, most were taken from peoples' rubbish sacks when such things were often thrown out!

Nah, we had to get rid of ours when we moved to the states. I think we have a couple of vhs tapes still though, from when they filmed some school plays that my brother and I were in.

No. I have a record player. But I have no records. But I do have videos. There may have been a mix-up...
I remember when we got rid of our VCR. I was really sad because they have so much character. I said that we'd rue the decision one day, and now, looking back, all I can say is thus...
God I was wrong,
Good-riddence.

We have a VCR but have never used it for years. So i doubt it could still be working. We have a collection of VHS tapes as well that are just gathering dust.

I did up till around a year or so ago. It was only kept in case I ever wanted to watch a few things I still only had on video tape. Programmes I had recorded on tv years ago that I can't find now, family videos, etc. Since I bought a dvd recorder a few years back and converted everything to dvd, the VCR was stuck in the loft till I eventually retired it after many years of service.

I have a VCR/DVD combo machine. It still works, so I'm not replacing it anytime soon. I don't own any VHS tapes though. I'm not sure I ever did, so why I bought that machine is a mystery. Maybe it was on sale at the time.

No. The last one I had was in 2008. I had gotten Digital Cable, which the phone company hooked up via a computer modem (so they informed me). I was recording some shows, and the thing went all awry. Newest and shortest lived VCR I'd ever owned lol. Usually I worked such things into the ground til they no longer worked at all. I had a total of 3 VCRS from 1992 when my dad got me the first one for a present; that one quit 5 years later; I bought another one, and I can't remember when "it" quit lol.
My tapes? Well a few years ago, I donated most of them to the public library (the bulk of them being the old Star Trek series (with Capt Kirk) and they had a sale on them *it figures* (rolls eyes). Oh well "dem's the breaks".
Oh here's something I could add here since it's about VCRs and their tapes: You know how I'm sure you know how the VHS tapes are supposedly not to be taken apart, well I took my copy apart of "My Fair Lady" (Eliza Doolittle, lol) when it wasn't playing right (the tape would get wound around inside the VCR), and I managed to fix it (using the scotch tape, as for the audio cassettes), and got it playing in the VCR again:). I was so proud of myself lol. (I know this is off topic, but another thing that's depressing me is my eyes have gotten worse, I don't mean blindness or anything serious like that, just the usual eye problems that come with not being as young as I used to be lol)
