Two weeks ago I went into work on a typical Thursday morning like any other. About two hours in there was a impromptu meeting called for the department. On my way to the conference room, a manager asked if me and another person could go to human resources. At that point I knew it what was about to happen. It was definitely a long and strange walk. My company decided they needed to eliminate 20% of our department due to budget cuts and I was one of the five people that got let go. I personally had never been in that position before, in fact, I worked in mgt previous to this job so I had been on the other side of the table in situation like these some what. However, when I let someone go, it was due to performance reasons and all parties pretty much new it was coming. This was out of the blue in regards to the timing of it. We expected cuts to happen a year or two down the road. Management knew about this and had planned for it when we restructure our department in the march. In fact, that's why they did it. I was really surprised and frustrated but I felt bad more for the other four that let go. I personally wish they could have told us sooner, especially since they knew ahead of time but I guess business doesn't work like that. As my boss was reading the scripted information keep saying its not based off performance and that I could apply for another position over on over again. To be honest, that really frustrated me even more, my work performance did show I should be let go and he knew that. That was the frustrating part of it and the fact that we hired 4 people in the last 5-7 months who were not taken into consideration. I said a quick good bye to everyone and friends(we were all pretty close) and then the next day came back to clean out my cubicle. It hit me then when I saw my computer and work phone had been disconnected.
Any ways, I gained a lot of experience for that position that will help me moving forward. I had an interview this week with a good company. It was long, almost 3 hours with 4 people but the hiring manager told me I was the first of 5 or 6 people to interview but that she said I set the bar high for the rest and hoped to see me again. know the waiting begins. the toughest part. lol

Sorry to hear about what happened in your last job, but it looks like that last interview ended in a positive note.
Here's hoping you get the new job. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, I'm not use to be home during the day, so finding stuff to do has been the toughest part. Other than applying for jobs of course. I live in Cleveland, so the LeBron-a-thon is going on. Needless to say, I'm getting tired of that. lol

Sweetpea I have found the library. Needless to say, I have been a regular. It sure does beat watching tv.
I haven't been able to find out anything around the Cleveland area where I live. it seems like i'm going to get an employment offer from a company in Columbus. I went through the interviews and they are checking my references. Of course this would mean I would have to move.
Pro's great company and It would be about 4 to 6 thousand more in salary a year(cost of living is high though) in the area it would be really good experience I have relatives and some old friends that live down there
Cons I have to move I have to break my lease(which means I have to pay until it rents again or the lease ends) I would have 4 months left moving two hours away.. so I wouldn't see my friends as much but I could come back on the weekends

So its been a crazy last couple of months with swings of hope of good news and a little more not so great news in the job hunt. When I first set out, I wanted to have found a job by September. It then turned into at the end of October, and then at the latest December. Well I've had some crazy experiences during this time with an abundance of interviews. Keep in mind I'm very fortunate to be getting interviews but it has been frustrating at the same time. I had one interview where the hiring manager said I set the bar really high for the remaining people but I didn't get that job. I had another company not fill position until after the new year. This was after they checked all my references. My most recent interview shows positive signs as well. When I asked the hiring manager about a timeline, he told me likely the first week of December. He has two more people to interview but he said he was very impressed by our conversation and my prospects look good. Keep in mind, these are 5 hour long interviews meeting with 10 people.
Typically, I would be excited, and I am. This is a position I really want, but I have received good feedback before and not secured the job. Not to mention I'm unemployed as well.
