I just watched the new Simpsons and I realized that they are not funny anymore. They used to be but they are not anymore. At least not the new ones. Now I can only watch the old ones. What do you think?

They haven't been for a while. I just watched the episode from tonight too and I don't remember it...it was 5 minutes ago! I don't know why I keep watching it, but I do. I guess out of loyalty or something. They really should have let the show die with dignity a long time ago.

I agree. I still usually will turn on the tv at 8 on sundays if Im home. I always end up doing something else though just because I dont like watching how lame it is now - instead of this from their hayday:
Homer: Aw, twenty dollars! I wanted a peanut! Homer's Brain: Twenty dollars can buy many peanuts! Homer: Explain how! Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services! Homer: Woo-hoo!

I could not agree more. It is awful now. I have argued so much about this. I have an idiot friend at university who thinks its better than ever, my god how I want to throttle her. I dont think its been funny since 1999/2000. I hate it now when I see it getting so much praise, it deserved praise for the past but now it is deviod of any humour whatsoever. Its full of silly references to this and that, and only pretentious smug people like it (like my uni friend, who just loves to understand a reference that others wont), while it used to be brilliant because it was something that everyone could enjoy, even children. It should have ended long ago.

They still churn out a good one now and then (like the one where they go to China to adopt a baby).
At least Family Guy and American Dad are good.

I've been watching ever since I was 6 years old (22 soon) and still think that it's funny but in a different way. The Simpsons is now more slapstick with witty references thrown in and I love it.
The peak (mid-late 90's) was great but I still enjoy the recent seasons (2002 onwards). I watch some of the early episodes now (season 1-4) and find that they are good to watch as a cartoon but not funny.

I haven't seen any of the new ones...i really loved the old ones though. It's sad to hear that their new ones aren't as good.
Anyways, I just bought 4 seasons of the family guy on DVD for only 80 bucks! (woo hoo for ebay!!).

It should have ended long ago. I agree entirely with that, I think its absolutely awful these days. Also I think the voice actors sound like they don't really care anymore either. I gave up on watching it regularly around the time of season 11. No idea what their up to now, they need to cancel it before the good episodes get outnumbered by the bad(if they haven't already).

I remember how I struggled to understand how it could go so bad so suddenly and I figured they must have made a conscious choice to change direction. However it seems just so inferior to before and simply NOT FUNNY at all that I find it hard to believe they chose to go in this direction. The show used to be warm and you would even care about the characters and the little stories, I dont think the characters are even likeable in the new episodes. I was wondering, do many Americans think this? It seems that over here most people dont realise how bad its become and the show seems untouchable and as that criticizing it is blashphemy. I really want the writers to realise that that majority of their audience now hate the show if theres any chance that they can change it for the better.

Since I only have terrestrial tv and thus doomed to watch the three episdoes they can afford over and over, I can't really say.
It's a shame Futurama is no more as I loved that. It's also a shame the schedulers here treated it like a bad smell.
In general knowing when to stop is very important. Too many shows drag on too long and their memory tainted. As sad as it is that shows like Fawlty Towers and The Office stopped so quickly, I think it was for the best.
However many people still seem to love the Simpsons. Perhaps it would be unfair to deprive them of their joy to suit one's own standards.
