Every summer holidays for the past five years I just sit at home doing absolutely nothing while my brother and sister are always out. Then my parents ask me why I don’t go out and this really bothers me coz I want to go out and do stuff but I’ve got no one to do this with. Although this year I did join a large group at school so when group outings are organised I go but this isn’t often because everyone’s got their own close friends within the group apart from me.
Anyway I was just wondering what you guys did /do in your summer holidays to keep yourself from going insane?

Let me get over the novelty of it being the opposite season where I live... Ok, i'm done.. Well the summer holidays can be quite boring if you've not got anything to do; you're right about that. In the holidays I used to read a lot. I went online a lot. I did wordsearches. I watched films. I walked my dog. I did more wordsearches.... etc. What's stopping you from going out on your own? For me, going out on my own is better than going out with other people. With other people they are not necessarily very sensitive to my anxiety, so I usually have to stick around in situations i'd rather get out of. When i'm on my own I can do what I like. Maybe someone else has some better ideas.

A few suggestions:
1. Go to the movies 2. Go to video store and hire some movies 3. Go to the library/museum/whatever 4. Go shopping
Going shopping alone can be quite relaxing, you can browse at your own pace without moronic friends complaining.

yeah I don't know what to do with myself either.
Usually I am working so I don't even notice.
My problem here is not having a car and being somewhat scared to go rent one.
Let's see some stuff to do here.
Shopping Beach day trips fishing camping parks/gardens/museums take up a hobby

Well when if I didn't have any friends:watch tv play computer/video games play snooker on a crappy little table sleep read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings play little games to pass the time like some kind of crazy golf using rugs and cupse etc, playing a form of squash using a ping pong ball and bat etc. Can't remember any others but I did alot of that. I would keep score as various countries in a made up tournament. listen to music sleep draw invent stupid things like 3 player chess, a kind of subuteo golf. I remember once designing/thinking about a replacement for electric hand whisks so that you could use it to clean the dishes lol.. err can't (and probably best not to) think of any others lol Actually those were later but I'm proud of my 3 player chess so play solitaire with real cards play chess against the computer sleep read some other books (quite rare) generally daydream and fantasise ooo, logic problems/puzzles play with my cat sunbathe!!!! damn I used to be able to get a good tan sleep damn I thought of something else but lost it when I edited something else. Things I did when I had friends:Play football/cricket/rounders Hang out in the arcade, playing pool, games and trying to see Chun Li's knickers. Get drunk/stoned Get girls drunk in the hope of some nooky listen to music watch tv play computer/videogames Generally hang out and sometimes have a laugh, although sometimes get bored too Sleep

Thats exactly the same as me apart from work, all I did last summer was go shopping a few times.

You could try and learn something new, maybe? Recently I taught myself to knit, and now I'm knitting all the time and it feels constructive because I can make useful things for myself and other people

I brought stuff to work on while I am here and just started something tonight. I find it very meditative to knit. I just zone out.

When I sit there just concentrating on the stitches, I don't have to think about anything else. Especially if I have the TV on as background noise

I work for the most part in summer, which isn't too fun. Down here in Texas, it gets in the 90's and up most of the time, and i often work outside, so needless to say i work up a sweat! ;D Besides work, i plan on getting into some other kind of academic program. I don't know what yet, aside from either teaching classes or library science, but i definitely plan on making myself into a real professional this year, and not sit around feeling sorry for myself.

go on the web a lot and practice your typing skills. practice basketball or take up golf. golf is a good sport because you dont need any friends to play
