Hi there , how are you all doing. I was watching TV last Wednesday and came across Beauty and the Geek on CW channel 09 (in CHICAGO). This show ladies and gentlemen is very interesting and you guys might wanna check it out because the geeks in the show are guess what......SHY!!!! If you haven't watched it let me explain what it is about. It kicked off last Wednesday January 3RD. The show will pair up each of the 8 geeks with 1 of the 8 beautiful beauties. Once they are paired up, the couple will work together as a team completing tasks until a couple gets eliminated each week and there is one couple standing . The last couple takes home $ 250,000. Basically the geeks are really smart but don't have social skills and their tasks are tasks which require them to be sociable and do things that would terrify us in UNITED. The girls on the other hand have to prove their knowledge on things like current events. Some of the tasks that these shy geeks had to do on the first episode was to go out on the street and get a girls phone number , have someone rub lotion on their backs, and ask someone to borrow a cell phone. Also they had to do STAND UP COMEDY IN FRONT OF PEOPLE in a comedy club, these guys looked like they where going to pass out, because they are not funny and have never done that but have to do it for the show. Keep on mind that these "geeks" are extremely shy, some of them if not all are virgins and have never had girlfriends and never go out,and they are forced to do social tasks and work and talk to these girls some which are models. Indeed this show should be very interesting and maybe it will motivate us and we might learn something from it.

Interesting..but I wonder how shy they really can be if they're on a popular reality TV show on national televison? Especially one where they know they're going to be scrutinized and labeled. I think I saw a few shows of the first season, but those Geeks weren't necessarily shy--socially awkward, sure, but not always shy. I think it takes guts for anyone to run around a big city and ask to put lotion on strangers' backs or do stand-up in front of a bunch of people at a comedy club. I, for one, would turn into Ralph Kramden and Hamana-hamana-hamana nonstop and then probably pass out.

Kitten I agree, about questioning how shy they truly are, but some people are tired of that and wanna change it and also the experience they might wanna get , plus there is the money factor. I personally would not do it , because I'm too shy for that. Of course I'm not saying the show is about shyness, but I definitely saw shyness there, these individuals that seem like they have been separated from society their whole life, and don't know how to deal with public, if you ask me those are also the characteristics that describes many shy people out there.

I commented on this show on the Shy Dillemma or some other section. Those guys are not that shy. Some were, but the rest were not shy. and the ones that were finalists were the least shy. They were actually pretty well spoken and had no problem with communication

It takes courage for these guys to go on a show like this. And both men and women learn a lot from this experience. I think it's great

i saw one episode of an english version of this game but havent seen it since! i have to agree that the contestants would hardly be shy to go on a game show like that!

I caught this once. Only one guy I saw on there I'd consider slightly geekish and at least a couple of these "geeks" I'd say were jocks. They might be in a new season now, I dunno.
Most of the "geeks" I saw on the show would have been the type who would have beaten me up in high school and stolen my lunch money.

what's interesting to me is seeing how stupid some of the girls are. These are exactly the kind of girls I would avoid in every-day life. All the girls on the show care only for partying and going out. Some were intelligent which is great, but most of them were emptier than space itself.

I wouldn't be surprised if the show is scripted, perhaps heavily. Oddly, I would have no trouble on a scripted show, at least as far as shyness goes. I never really had trouble talking in front of a class if I had a paper to read from, word for word. So, I would be fine with that, but if there were questions, the blushing, the sweating, the shaking. It would all come out. I watched the show, I think it's funny. I agree about the girls. Seriously The next presidential election? OMG how do you NOT know? The whole world is eagerly awaiting the time when GWB is officially out of power. And one of the girls called a modern jet fighter the Wright brother's plane? lmao come ON. It doesn't take knowledge to realize that, it takes common sense. I have no sympathy for ignorant people.

That's pretty elitist, isn't it? So she probably hadn't heard of the Wright brothers. Big frick. My point was she didn't need to. She didn't just say it was the Wright plane, she said it was flown in 1903. It's like saying the 2006 Civic was the Ford Model T. You need to know NOTHING about cars and still you would realize that's wrong. It's not just ignorance, it's just a lack of thinking. Doesn't matter anyway, they just aren't my kind of people anyhow

I watched some of that programme (an earlier series). I found it annoying, the way the women on there were so stupid! It is possible to find a woman who is both beautiful and intelligent.

I know the asian guy on the show. He was in one of my classes a while ago (sat right in front of me and we would make small talk with each other). I can't believe he's on the show lol.
