Hey everybody. I am new to this site, so I thought I'd just drop a quick line and tell you a bit about myself. I am currently attending college as a sophmore. I live in the dorms, but have little to no social contact because I have a single room. I have always considered myself shy, but I've usually been able to get by with my friends around. This year has been very different, and more difficult. My best friend moved to Vancouver, BC....about 900 miles away...and I have few other close people to talk to. I do have a boyfriend, but to be honest we are complete opposites. I don't feel like he understands my shyness. He is very outgoing, and often I feel like I drag him down. Basically college has been a lonely experience so far. If anyone has any advice on how to feel confident initiating conversations that would be greatly appreciated. It is very comforting coming to this site and seeing that there are so many other people that feel the same way I do. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'll probably be on quite a bit, so I'll chat with anyone who'd like to.

Prop your dorm room door open. Put some comics, photos, articles, etc., on or around your door to entice people to stop and look. Say hi to people who do stop.
Have some "props" that would give someone an opening to begin a conversation - put up posters, art, leave a guitar sitting out (if you play guitar), etc.
And welcome... ;D

I'm also glad that I came across this board...makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one with these irrational thoughts and behaviors.
