Hello all
i'm a shy person currently on therapy, and the lady is helping me alot. so i'm changing little by little. I used to be shy of everything now I try more stuff.
I had the idea of taking a class or doing something, so i can get more of a social life. At first i was thinking ART class, actually that's what therapist suggested, so i looked, but there wasn't.. then there was lawn bowling, but you had to become a member for 100 something dollars.. then i saw dance classes. and although i would never think of taking a dance class i admire people who can dance. so i said why not? i was going to take salsa,, but i know salsa is fast and i'm pretty clumsy so i decided on tango, because it's a very beautiful artful dance. Wow, can you believe it? ME, a shy person doing dance!! and holding a GIRL???/ which i have never done ever before.. he he he.. well i like the idea of me and a girl dancing so i said "Heck I'll do it!!" And in my life i've always had opportunities and many times i wanted to try something and at the last second i'd bail and say ( ""mmm, i'll try it later"" ) and that kind of mentality was not good, because i didn't get anywhere. so this "Heck I'll do it!" mentality helped me more^^. So i started. and it wasn't as bad as i thought.
Yesterday was the first class i went to, and they had already had a class last week so i missed one, and i was behind. every guy came with his girl, so at least there were plenty of girls because we rotate every once in a while , so it isn't like guys with their girls stay with their girls^ ^ he he. Then, there was me and about 4 other single girls. There was a mixture of ages, some girls near my age( 25) and some older ladies. Well very interesting.
Anyway, As you can imagine, i was the worse..... and also never had dance experience, so i looked like a dummy^^
but then i tried paying more attention and i iwas catching on. we danced with like 6 partners( 1 hour class).. and it was great. of course i was looking down at my feet, but maybe soon i'll start looking straight at my partner. Wow, it was a bit scary too, cause i had a beautiful girl right in front of me.. sigh.. very intimidating.
Well that was my experience. It sure has helped me developed confidence. and now i will go everyweek. good idea heh? me, a shy person who has never done anything, now taking dance. i recommend it to other shy people.
And by the way, i have read this thread about Shy people Who say they are shy and they really aren't.. and how people are tired of that.. But in my case i've been really shy. and i mean really really shy. never had friends from kindergarden to even after graduated University, never talked when i was in school, would turn red.. felt really bad, etc. So i'm was a really shy person.
Talking to someone who understands you is great. Like i'm going to therapy and as opposed to my parents she listens to me, and gives me advice. so now i feel better.
well, anyone with similar experience with dance or other thing? how neat, huh?
I encourage other shy people to try things out! take a class that's interesting.
