Hi all, just curious as to how many other Potter fans there are on these boards. I *love* the Harry Potter series and it's the one subject guaranteed to get me talking I'm always on the HP fansites, and love discussing theories, etc. So let me know I'm not the only one and tell me who's your favourite character (guess who mine is), what you love about the books, or anything HP related you like. Please no posters taking the mick, claiming LOTR is better, or general Potter-bashing, you can start your own thread for that! *********************************************

I love both the Harry Potter series and the LOTR trilogy, so there will be no bashing of any sort. ;D
Anyway, I only jumped on board to the whole HP craze last year. Being in my mid-20s, I basically wrote the movies off as "kid stuff"--until I sat down and watched it over my parents' house one day--and was hooked. The story is so engaging and the characters are great to watch. It's not dumbed down at all. I've read all the books since then & "Azkaban" is my favorite, with "Goblet of Fire" in a close second.
Snape's my favorite as well. He's just such an unabashed jerk, that Snape and yet, he's all mysterious and just awesome. For those of you who havent' read the later books, they get a lot more into his character then.
Can't WAIT for the next book. Any word on when it's coming out?

Yay!!! You have good taste Kitten As for when book 6 is coming out, I have no idea, though if I had to speculate I would say winter 2005 earliest JK's half way through her first draft, as she said at the Edinburgh Book Festival (I was there!!!). To keep us occupied meanwhile, there's the PoA DVD release next month, and the GoF film Nov. 2005. I don't know if you've seen it, but JK released a sentence or two from book 6 (The Half-Blood Prince) on her website. Don't quite know what to make of it though.....

Yes, I'm a Potter fan too! The books are so addictive! It just sucks you right into that magical world, yet when you return to the real world it suddenly seems so dull and boring. Love J.K's characterization of Snape. He's an intriguing character, but I wouldn't want to meet him! Fred and George are legends and Hagrid's just.....well Hagrid! Can't wait till the GoF movie and the 6th book come out! The movies aren't as good as the books but I think they're getting better.

harry potter is a good book. i saw the first two movies before reading the books and thought they were good movies. then i read the books and the books were much better. i saw the third movie and didn't enjoy it that much cause they had left so much out that was important.
it's the opposite of the way i feel about LOTR, with LOTR i like the movies better because, well, Tolkien was a little too wordy and needed an editor. however i do prefer the extended dvd versions of the movies, as they include important things missing from the theatrical versions.

The Harry potter books are the BEST! ;D They are the only books i've read more than once. i'm currently rereading them for about the fourth time, so that it'll be fresh in my mind when i get book six ;D
the next movie, Goblet of Fire, doesn't look too bad at all from the trailer. Definately looks better than the previous ones, even though i don't think they are as bad as some say. i partically like the look of the Dragon ;D

I love the Harry Potter books! Goblet of Fire in particular, and yeah the new movie looks really good. Except the hair... I dunno what's up with that. lol One thing that burns my bottom about that last book was Ginny... Did this bother anyone else? In what, two years? She overcomes her shyness and starts turning into feisty/spunky/outgoing heroine number six-million-and-four. Can't she be shy and still help save that world? But even if I'd like to brain Ginny with book 5, the series is still crazy good. The intricacy of the plots... gets me every time, heehee

I like it, but I'm not an obsessed crazy fan. I love both the Prisoner of Azkaban book and movie.

I love the HP books! It took me a long time to read them because other people were all "oh, they're just for kids" or "they're stupid". Well, turns out they were stupid morons! I fell in love with them the moment I started reading Book 1. Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are my favorites, though, by far. Oh, and Neville is my hero. So is Lupin. Everybody needs at least two heroes.

I also love, Love LOVE the books and i think I probably am an obsessed crazy fan! Though i must say that i don't enjoy the movies as much as the books. I think J.K. Rowling is one of the most creative, skillful writers of all time!!! The Goblet of Fire was also my favorite and i've read all of the books several times.

I've seen the movies and I liked them. My favorite is the third one. However I haven't read the books so I'm judging the movies just as films and not as adaptations. I'm not sure about reading the books just because I have so many more books in my collection to get through.
I have read Lord of the Rings and can say the books were way better, although the movies were excellent too.
