Agree with SP on The Stones ^^. Coldplay and Muse do I dislike as well, they're playing boring, depressing, mind-destroying and lame rock music.

lol....
well....I quite like the Rolling Stones. I love the song "paint it black"!
and umm....I just recently became a Coldplay fan. Seriously. I'm loving their music so much lately.
yeah...I know, I'm ruining the point to this thread...
well, one person that I can think of that I don't know how he became famous is Rod Stewart. I'll admit I think a couple of his songs sound okay. But overall, I hate his stinkin voice! It gets stuck in my head and it's so damn annoying to begin with!

I like different types of music depending on my mood...except rap and country. Most of the time, I'd rather listen to instrumentals, like this www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW51czvhA0k

and umm....I just recently became a Coldplay fan. Seriously. I'm loving their music so much lately. Don't you find their music depressive and overall mentally destroying? Well, I'm the type of person that likes music I can identify with or fits my mood. Any music that does that to me, I rate high. So yes...I agree that Coldplay has a rather melancholic sound...but that's partly why I love it so much! I think some of their stuff, both musically and lyrically, is quite brilliant. I LOVE Chris Martin's voice....because I think it perfectly expresses the feeling of intense emotional longing. An emotion that hurts incredibly because I myself can't really express it. By "mentally destroying," I'm hoping you just mean it's too depressive rather than music that kills intelligent brain cells. And in that case, if it's too depressing....than I can understand how another person might hate it. It's funny how the very reason one person loves something might be the reason why another person hates it.

I love ColdPlay and have got killer seats to their concert. ;D
They are supposed to be mellow. That is their style. Like Yanni is mellow.
I'd much rather listen to them than some no talent punks who are screeching and sound like they are banging on trash cans.

Naaah, I'm pretty sure that if I'd listened to Coldplay for more than 5 minutes my brain cells would eventually start tearing apart . They're allergic to that kind of music. Yeah, I see that we have a very converging and different musical taste here. The reason I dread Coldplay {and anything else that's as blue} is because it makes me sad, depressive and moody. It reminds me of bad times and who wants to experience more badness when there's already more than enough in the real world {that's why I also don't like sad movies}? It just seems pointless to search for more sad things when one gets loads of it on daily basis. The vocalist's voice is already depressing in itself, the music just worsens it. Seriously. Maybe we should have a "music evening" and see what contrast-filled sounds will appear ? I'm sure I'm listening to music you dislike, too ^^.

Well...like I said, I'm just drawn to depressing music....especially when I'm depressed. It sort of speaks to me and for me at the same time. I find it very comforting. Plus, the style of music seems relaxing to me (or mellow in JW's words). Almost like a lullaby, in a way....And I mean that in a good way. Maybe we should have a "music evening" and see what contrast-filled sounds will appear ? I'm sure I'm listening to music you dislike, too ^^. haha...I bet so. But that's expected. I don't think I ever expect to meet anyone with whom we have exact musical tastes. I wish I could, but I don't think it's ever going to happen. lol

On the subject of depressing music. I like a lot songs that could be classed as depressing..especially if you pay attention to the lyrics more then I do Even in a good mood i can appreciate such music, some have a really good I dunno, atmosphere to them..I dunno how to describe it. That said I don't like coldplay, but mainly because I find them boring rather then depressing
