Thought I'd break the three month duck of no posts here. Will always be a shame but that is life I guess. Anyway, hope all who pass through here are doing well.

Hello everyone.
I've followed Shy United on and off for years. I just checked in to see what's going on and I was surprised to find there's almost nothing happening. Any thoughts about why? It's not as if shyness and all its problems has gone away.

Hi Alan,
Guess it could be a multitude of things, life gets in the way, new relationships, other responsibilities, also as we are all shy people I think a factor could be not knowing what to say. But that is my opinion.
How are you doing?

Hello Sigh, Zoe and alan.
I think the site was busy at a time when there were fewer outlets for shy/anxious people to communicate. It could be at a pace that suited you, whether you wanted to be very active or sit back and observe most of the time. Life moves on for most though, as does technology and 'social media' in particular. As far as I can tell (I'm not an expert at all!) forums like this have fallen by the wayside to a large degree. This, along with people just generally moving on with life, or being dragged along regardless, means the traffic has dwindled. I imagine younger generations just have other outlets for their needs these days outside of forums. Perhaps the fact this site has next to no activity now is offputting in itself? Who knows.

Hi all!
I'd agree with Slinky, the advent of social media seems to have been the death of forums largely. The world has moved on as it often does. We seem to be in the internet age of the influencer now and things are very different to even five years ago or so.

Hello all! Well yes social media has affected forums a lot. But there are still several other active shy forums out there. I would always recommend using the SAUK chatroom (it uses traditional IRC), I'm sometimes in there under a different name. I don't like the SAUK forum, personally. SAS is much quieter and slower than it once was. It also switched from traditional vBulletin to modern XenForo a while ago, a very radical change. Personally I don't like the new software in most respects, either from a user or moderator perspective and I'm not alone in thinking that. Shy United is perhaps the smallest shy forum out there. Most or all the others had a much larger base of active users to keep them going today.

Unfortunately, this is the case. I used to love forums but it seems like the closest modern forum is reddit. I like the idea of just being unknown on one forum and making posts that just exist here. I don't like everything being tied together under a central identity.

Despite the current trend with people moving away from forums, this will always hold a place in my heart and will continue to check in (whether or not I make a post is another thing)

Well....checked in here today and it says there has been 764 visitors in the last 24 hours! I'm guessing that could include repeat visits from the same people, bots maybe? I do wonder why this is the case, yet the post are next to nothing. If not nothing at all...

That is the tricky point, considering we are shy people to begin with, I'm sure we have more readers than posters (i mean the people not the object). Thank you for pushing through the uncomfortableness and posting 💕
