I have to do a simple calculation for work, but I have to do it a lot so I looked into making something to do the calculation for me, and I decided to look up excel's features, my god is it handy for large amounts of this stuff, I even looked into a little bit of visual basic macros to do some simple tasks. Congrats, ura! Make sure you use the Record Macro feature, to see the Visual Basic that is created when performing on-screen tasks (in addition to written code). I do a lot of VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) at work. I remember you made a post to similar effect a few months ago which is why I posted here. That's exactly how I started to get a rough idea of how to understand visual basic, the macro I wanted was just a clear cell macro, I ended up looking at commands online and using the record macro feature to get an idea of how to write the code, it seems pretty simple once you look at what it's doing, I'm also using IF arguments for the calculation too. People have told me I should have studied computer science or something similar I can see why, I might actually enjoy coding, I know visual basic is the lowest level of any coding but still.

VBA is simpler than Java, C++ or Visual Basic .NET, but it still has most of the important features of a programming language. I think working with VBA in Excel is an excellent way to learn programming. You've got a user-friendly IDE (Integrated Development Environment), a wealth of information at your fingertips with the built in Help and online resources, and the Record Macro feature. Also its simplicity can be its strength, with fewer options that you don't need. Good luck with your coding- even if it's just with VBA, that can be very useful.

If you want to try out programming a little more, there are lots of good free courses you can try at your leisure. Couple of good intros: 1 2. I'm amazed at the quality of stuff that's become freely available over the past few years.

I was using visual basic to perform a delete cell task, the majority of the coding though seems to come from If commands and the like, the thing is though to make the program would probably take me as long as it would to just manually do the calculation sometimes, I'm getting lazy so I haven't made it yet, I've just been manually doing calculations, I mean I could throw it together in 10 minutes but for some reason I don't want to. People have told me I should have studied computer science or something similar I can see why, I might actually enjoy coding, I know visual basic is the lowest level of any coding but still. I don't think I'll actually get into programming at the moment, I'm well aware of how many great tutorials there are online, but at the moment I don't want to go near them.
