Anyone here gone through these yet? If so, how do you find shyness affects your driving? I'm in the process of learning to drive at the moment and I just get so nervous when behind the well I usually just panic and steer all over the place..

Never bothered me. When I first learned to drive(outside an arcade ), I learned on this subdivision that didn't have any houses on it yet. So, no one EVER drove there. The VERY basics then. The only thing I ever had trouble with was doing multiple things at once. Watching the spedometer, the road, the signs, and the mirrors. That went away after driving a few times. Oh, and I didn't know how to judge where I was on the road.

Judgeing wear I am on the road is a problem for me too, I just cant seem to concencrate on all the differn't things around me Probably as my co-ordination is so bad. Oh well, with any luck it will just come with time.

I don't know what you're all talking about! I flew through my driving test first time. And if you believe that you'll believe anything! It took me FIVE TIMES!!!!!!!!!! Anybody laughs gets through off the boards!
I was grand during my lessons. I was pretty decent all round. But I just hated that hour long test. The first time something minor went wrong my confidence just plummeted.
The time I actually passed the instructor to get me stop in a side road for five minutes becasue my legs were shaking uncontrollably. I flew through the theory test. I loathed the closness and the fact that I was under scrutiny.

when other ppl ask me why havent u learned yet i'll tell'em that there is no money. that should do the trick for couple of years that actually was the reason i never learned in high school when all my other friends were learning. there was no way we would have been able to afford the insurance.

Same here. Eventually, I got a job and saved the money, though. More than a year later than most people. I was more than halfway through my senior year.

I'm not trying to alienate anybody, but learning to drive is a young persons game - expecially if you happen to be shy as well. At least then you still have that youthful air.

I'm currently learning and I get really anxious in the run up to my lesson and it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get all the mistakes out the way then settle in. I did pretty good on my last lesson though, I started of well and I generally drove good all lesson; so things are looking up. My advice to anyone learning who is finding it difficult, is to just stick at it. For my first two lessons I drove well considering I was just starting then on my third lesson I drove terrible and I really lost the enthusiasm to learn, but when I spoke to experienced drivers, they all said you always get bad lessons like that and the week after I drove well again; so its just a case of keeping committed to it.
