I am constantly thinking about stupid little mistakes. I hope I won't rememer half of them in 25 years . I have not passed my driving exams although all of my classmates have. Nor do I plan to. Ever heard of car-free societies/life-style? Think of the time, attention, resources, maintenance, health and ecology impact of cars. Don't take me wrong. I don't say cars are evil and we should all go back to the forests. But I'll be perfectly content (and a little bit proud too) using my legs (that's what they were made for, not), bikes, public transport for the rest of my life.

It's kind of funny how we all have similar problems. Driving absolutely terrified me, and I thought I was the only one. It took me 5 or 6 years to finally get my license! I was nearly 21 when I did.
All I can say is that you WILL get better. I'm still a bad driver, but I'm a competent driver, and I've never been in an accident. (And I live in Miami which is notorious for its bad drivers.) Just keep at it, and you'll get it eventually. It took me awhile before I could learn to relax behind the wheel. (I'm still not completely relaxed, but that's probably a good thing as it heightens my awareness.)

I was so nervous during my parallel parking part that I forgot to use the brakes at all going backward. The tester grabbed the dash and yelped. And I flushed red and drove back to front of the testing building. I couldn't even apologize. (I boosted my confidence by saving up and paying for an extra lesson before I tried again.) On a another note, while i was in driver's ed one of the people in my car hit a dog and another ran over a STOP sign. Stupid human tricks. --It was a good place to meet people though, there's always plenty to joke about and you already have something in common. good luck -s ;D

Our society needs cars. Without them it will pretty much buckle up. Also, you can't exactly walk a couple thousand miles, right? So why not to use planes instead? What exactly do you mean by 'ruining the world'? I think the ecology impact of boats and planes won't be that much different.

My driving experience included the examiner telling me to get up to speed on a straight road and to stop when he yelled STOP. I asked if he was going to put on his seat belt and he said no, as he would be ready. Well, I got up to 40 MPH and he yelled "STOP"! I hit the brakes allot faster than he thought I would and he hit his head on the windshield and the his waist on the dash. I asked, if he was okay. He said he was but my driving test endded a couple of minutes later. I did pass for some reason? On you that say you walk and don't intend to have a car or go in a vehicle..this "sounds good" at the moment ::)but you won't keep out of vehicles all your life. Same as people who say, they will boycott the oil companies and not buy gas on such and such day, and this will bring prices down. It will do the complete opposite..drive prices up as retailers sell this gas and if less buy to make the same money prices are raised. All of life if you want to make money is based upon pure economics.......supply and demand.

I want to live without a car - not today, not any special day, but all of my life.

All of life if you want to make money is based upon pure economics.......supply and demand. Not JUST supply and demand, though. That's a basic rule of economics, but not the only one. The price of oil goes up a lot faster than it goes down when there is some event like a war which makes people BELIEVE the supply will go down. It's because oil companies base prices on PUBLIC BELIEFS in supply and demand more than ACTUAL supply and demand. People expect prices to skyrocket whenever we have a war in the Middle East, so they do--even though there is still plenty of oil in transport and supply AT the pumps won't change for a while. People don't expect a dramatic decrease in price, though. Gas companies happily refrain from surprising them.
